    Thanks again for including visuals in the podcast--they really make a difference to us audibly-deficient folks who rely on visuals to clarify points. Well done!

    First to the table. Nice to listen to the Ventures Fly Co. podcast, and no doubt when the season starts again I will have more questions from across the pond.

    Hi Spencer. Once again, a great episode. Thank you for talking emerges. Sometimes, it's hard to find the hatch but always a few stragglers. Take care and tight lines. Steve J.

    Sad story man. But yeah. It happens.
    My most fun, which I landed, and speaking of big fish in little rivers... Was literally the small stretch of the river that goes through the actual town along main street. I had 20 minutes before dark, and I must have drove by that spot 100 times saying there's gotta be fish there. So I stop across from the True Value, hop the guard rail and go down the 10 foot bank to the river. It was gorgeous. And sure enough, under the next small bridge was a 2ft natural waterfall and a deep little run coming right at me. I watch and study it for a few minutes and tie on a long heavy dropper. I work my way up the run, and get to the spot where I think the water comes down and is the deepest before it comes back up and levels out. I throw it right into the falls to get it to drop as fast as possible, and go where the food goes. Instantly I'm on, I set it, and this thing bolts... directly at me. And this is a good time to mention, the river is only 20 feet wide at best. So here it comes, I'm whipping the line through the guides as fast as I can so it doesn't go slack.. and the second it goes past me the line is whizzing off the reel. This fish makes run after run after run with me frantically trying to keep tension on it. It took a solid 10 minutes to land this fish, and given where it was in the most unlikely of places, it's probably never been caught before. This fish was a massive 18 or 19 inch wild brown, from a 20ft wide river across from True Value and 30' from my car. Absolutely bonkers, and my favorite fish to date.

    Sparkle Dun, any size recommended. ? Any other Emerger pattern you can recommend ? Can I take a Parachute Adam dry fly an make it a Emerger. ? Thanks for you help and great video. !

      I would try the Sparkle dun in 14 or 16 and go down as needed from there.
      Parachute Adams are great during a hatch. They ride low enough on the water a fish could mistake them for an emerger.
      Glad you enjoyed it! 😎🤙🏽

    About the Lower Provo. We fish the private land anyway. I was talking to a guy and he has kept fishing it for years, guides still go there, and we all just hope we do not get a ticket. lol. We are just forced to stay on one side of the river. And some days it worth the 900 dollar fine they have posted everywhere. =D

    Ok Newb question alert ! Lol so fishing emergers ...are we fishing it somewhat below the surface ( like a nymph ) or using floatant and keeping it high half in half out ( like a dry ) ?? I'm so confused

    • @venturesflyco
      @venturesflyco  5 місяців тому +1

      That's not a newb question at all! It's a great one. When I fish with emergers, I typically fish a larger dry fly ahead of it, then tie 18-22 inches of tippet off the bend of the hook, and tie my Emerger onto that. It helps to see the fly. By design, emergers will sit in the surface film. I typically put a bit of floatant on them, and on the tippet between it and the larger dry fly -- Spencer

    How to find big fish: Go places few people go, places with a lot of food, and a lot of bio-availability with low feeding competition and low predator competition, a place with year around feeding conditions, a place with clean water, and with a lot of pockets for the fish to rest in. yee yee! In other words, you aint gunna find anything like this.
