These slice-of-life films were called "actualities" and were very popular for a time.
The older people might have been too old to enlist in WWI but those younger lads were probably in the thick of things.
I FEEL LIKE A ...TIME TRVELER
Wow, this is amazing. I live in Manchester and know this junction well. I've never seen it as busy as that! I love the soundtrack too. I hope some northern English smarty pants doesn't come along and point out that the voices are talking in broad south Yorkshire accents not Manchester. 😂😂
Organized chaos, like a terry Gilliam film. Great video
Amazing footage 1901 & in this condition. Must of been a tough time for some of the horses. Notice the two white ones at 00.52 struggling to pull a double decker hovis bus, & as they get older it will became harder.
So in 1839 they figured out how to produce an image if you stood still for 14 minutes, and a century later they had figured out how to make that image move and produce it in full color with synchronized sound and take the image apart and put it back together again on your television set.
Beautiful
That's something else...
City streets back then look and feel like they were so claustrophobic
Crazily awesome!!!
Imagine going back in time right now. Would be another world
very good- I particularly thought the way you added sound was a nice touch- it sounded authentic. Thanks for this.
great sound Mike
Geez, even back then Ads were everywhere.
i love 1901
this great thankyou..
wonder if there's film of my home town, Cardiff.. ?
booming coal port at this time..
Wonder what the cop is doing in the middle of the crossing, definitely not regulating the traffic! love those horse drawn trams and Hansom cabs.
Compare this to the 12 min original film of 1905 San Fransisco, Calif and there are over 50% cars mixed with horse and buggies. That film is here on YT also. Its called Market Street and camera is hand powered (they all were) and for 12 min he films from a cable trolley. So historically ironic, 4 days later the great 8.0 magnitude earthquake hit with over 3000 dead and 75% of the city burned to the ground. I note the brits were still driving on the wrong side of the road...(joke.) ; )) We love love.
Super!
EXCELLENT
Incrível sensacional fantástico parabéns, Brasil.
as busy as it is today. the policeman didnt seem to do much.
This film needs some frame interpolation to make it smoother
No cross walk and stop sign.
Cool what street is this?
The film was shot at the junction of Cross Street and Corporation Street.
I truly wonder what it was like to be around so many people and so much hustle and bustle. It seems kind of exciting to this rural lad whose closest town is as boring as could be with very little architectural beauty or vast scale. No interesting humans. No animals walking about. Just cars, strip malls and the ugliest possible buildings. What happened to artistry and beauty in the design of cities and in costume?
Great video , a different time , I think horse manure would be the pollution problem of the day ?
IT WAS GREAT FOR THE GARDEN--BUT NOT NICE WHEN CLINGING TO LONG SKIRTS AND TAKEN INTO THE HOME.
当時は結構馬車と徒歩🚶が多かったんだなぁ。馬🐎の蹄がうるさい👂️💥よ。
Everyone in this video have died
Damn the streets were crowded
fake news
My goodness ! Horses everywhere !
As many horses as people.
a lot of clearing up!
