  • This English country dance was composed by Colin Hume, and set to a slightly adapted version of an aria from Dvořák's opera "Rusalka." The dance is a three-couple set dance, although in this video we only show the second two times., with a few small glitches included. Dancers here move at a slightly faster tempo than that suggested by the choreographer (about 99 bpm rather than 90). The dance was recorded December 30, 2017, at Winter Dance Week at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. Musicians are Foxfire (Daron Douglas, violin, and Karen Axelrod, piano), instruction and prompting are by David Millstone.
The dance and music were published in the Winter 2017-18 edition of the Country Dance and Song Society NEWS:

I worked out the tempo by playing the tune on my computer and walking around to it, and having watched this video I believe David has the right tempo. I think callers in The States often take waltz-time dances too fast, but maybe I was over-compensating!
