I wouldn't buy the smallest engine size in almost any car these days.
In ths case the 1l is just ok but very annoying on the highway the 1.5 is the best engine for this car imo.

The only thing I don't like is that it's not a small (ish) car anymore. Over the previous 2 generations (so from gen 8, which I currently have) they seem to have really increased in size. Gen 7's look small when comparing them. Sadly this seems to be common in a lot of cars these days.

The Honda Fit is what the Civic used to be. Even here in North America, the Accord’s sales are plummeting because it’s too big, but doesn’t have the room or versatility of the CR-V.

Interesting car. I wonder if the bad fuel economy is perhaps the result of a tiny turbocharged engine? I know that most other manufacturers that have gone to tiny turbocharged engines (Hyundai, Ford, etc) have had problems with customers not getting good fuel economy. I know from driving turbo engines over the years it’s tough to keep your foot out of the turbo and tiny displacement and a ten second 0-10 only makes it that more necessary-compared to many large displacement normally aspirated engines we have here in Canada on large vehicles which return similar fuel economy figures whether driven hard or easy thanks to tall gear ratios and no boost.

    • @TTTtowelythetowelTTT

It’s stupid to tax engine size. Tax fuel... engines that use more will pay more. A big V8 barely ticking along at idle on the dual carriageway uses barely more fuel than a 1.0 T halfway up the rev range.

As for the car...that spec/engine/colour combo is my list along with the Seat Leon FR 1.4 125. Interesting comment about the smoothness of the three cylinder engine, I was concerned it might be too thrummy - I'll have to wait and see until I test drive it myself. I've heard reports elsewhere that the four cylinder 1.5 gets closer to it's claimed mpg figures.
Personally I think the interior is great apart from the cheap feeling buttons on the steering wheel. Many reviews comment about the infotainment system but thankfully Android Auto is standard.

Maintaining the cars size and weight while reducing the engine displacement always results in bad fuel economy.
40mpg for a car that weighs nearly 2900 lbs without passengers and luggage is actually pretty damn good.

Possibly lead foot problems for most people. With this car I average 35-40 driving like a normal driver. Driving Spiritedly, 25~28mpg. Driving like an ass hat with the AC blasting, 18~22mpg.

Entertainment system in Honda is s**t. I have brand new Civic and is absolutely disaster. Laggy climate control, voice recognition hardy recognized anything, screen mirroring doesn't work etc. I spoke with Honda about it and Honda acknowledge the problem, but they won't do the update for entertainment system.

With the CVT version you can easily get 44-45 MPG

Only 40mpg for a tiny little 1.0l engine? What’s the point? I average way more than that in my 2.0 TDI. I’ll stick with that all day.

Yeah... but diesel costs more-both per gallon and in purchase and maintenance costs, the resale of your car is in the shitter, and diesels are dirty and will be taxed out of existence.
Plus... driven right this car can produce better fuel economy. Look at fuel economy sites.. the real world fuel economy between Civics and Golf/Jettas are nearly identical.

Like many standard features on cars they tend to be rubbish. Standard sat nav but a rubbish sat nav. Infotainment badly designed. Dreary interior is an understatement.
Maybe one day Honda can make their cars have the same appeal as their other products.

It's a 1 litre Turbo and a Honda engine...it's very good but I test drove one and it didn't have enough go for me... you have to thrash it to get the performance which probably explains why they are getting such poor mpg... driven carefully I reckon you should get into the 50 mpg bracket.

    • @ljakrtsh1

Fernando Barbosa yes, it has good performance, it has 200nm and 130hp and it is easier to drive than previous 1.8 vtec...if you didn't try it, you shouldn't judge like that

I really love the Honda hatchback but I’m not a fan of the interior. It would be awesome if they can change the interior to white or other colors instead of just black. I’m 13 and have 2 more years to buy my car so hopefully they change some things!!! Fingers crossed 🤞🏾
