As a Liverpool fan what's appealing about Alonso is the similarities he shares with Bob Paisley. Bill Shankly managed Liverpool from 1959-1974 and he built the Liverpool squad that would win European Cups and Titles, but while at Liverpool he won 0 European Cups and only won The English Top Division 3 times. Paisley came in after Shankly and took the torch and ran with it, winning 6 English Titles, and 3 European Cups in just 9 years. Paisley's successor Joe Fagan won everything in just 2 years. Some people say Klopp hasn't won a lot in the time he's been at Liverpool but it looks like if we bring in Alonso he could carry the torch like Bob Paisley did and win a ton of trophies with the squad Klopp built.

@@LoyalFan9383 He could, but i think it would be far more beneficial for him Xabi to get some CL experience outside of Madrid before he goes there, messing up massively at Bayern, Liverpool or Madrid could seriously hurt his chances of getting a job at any of these clubs, if he messes up elsewhere, staying at Leverkusen one more season has the least possible long term downsides. Leverkusen is his safest bet

@@LoyalFan9383 I do think we can do better then Pioli, so yes, but my main issue isn`t with him it`s with the new owners. Too me it doesn`t seem like our owners want us to return to CL glory(which will be hard due to PL`s financial dominance, not owning our own stadium etc) They seem fine with maybe winning the serie a once in awhile, but we want more then that, we were one of the greatest teams of all time.

sometimes it isn’t that easy. logically there’s no reason why any of leverkusens stars would leave as long as they get the money they deserve, they’re talented enough to win the lot, and they play under a manager that gets the best out of them. with that being said tho, players have dreams too, and it’s likely that their dreams never involved leverkusen. it’s gonna be hard to lee guys like Wirtz, Frimpong, and Grimaldo away from the premier clubs of europe

i don’t know if bayern is the right place i’m from germany and in bayern a coach doesn’t get much freedom they have not much to do with new signings and i think xabi needs a club where he can do what he wants freely so i think staying in leverkusen is the best option for next season
Liverpool Echo reporting today that the players want Pep Lijnders next and others like Dean Saunders have heard the same. Alonso can stay put, Lijnders had always been my first choice.

Going to Munich make absolutely no sense. It is a guranteed short term job, and he would disrespect hus club and his fans. From my viewpoint there is only 3 possible options:
-Going to Liverpool now
-attempt a champions league run with Leverkusen and going to Liverpool next season
-stay in leverkusen until ancelotti leaves Madrid and go there
he should stay at leverkusen for another season or 2 then liverpool would be the next option

Leverkusen and Bayern wouldn't have clean records if they played in the EPL. I'm not downplaying Xabi Alonso's quality, but it's easier to go undefeated in the Bundesliga than the EPL. Currently, the EPL is the most competitive league with 3 teams all fighting for the title with only 1pt separating 1st from 3rd.
I’d say there’s a 90% chance he’ll stay in Leverkusen, 50% chance he’ll go to Bayern Munich, 33% chance he’ll go to Liverpool. As for Real Madrid, 0% chance as of now and 99% chance in 2026.

The whole ‘shadow of Klopp’ thing is overhyped, I love the guy and everything he’s done for my club but our fans aren’t idiots. We understand a rebuild/reset. We aren’t United or Chelsea who have zero patience for their managers. Alonso would be given the same 5 year spell as Klopp to deliver something big to anfield. Or given the same patience as Arteta with a much much better squad as base to build on. I don’t know how Bayern is more attractive than that especially proving himself in the best league in the world

The Prem is def not the best league itw but I agree with everything else. He would not be given the same patience at Bayern that he would get at Liverpool. Bayern’s clout doesn’t really hold substance outside of the Bundesliga when it comes to competing for transfers; they’ve been taking Ls lately despite getting Kane. I feel that Liverpool has been more efficient than them (despite the Caicedo and Lavia fails). Ultimately, I hope he stays.
