Shame they decided to play so incredibly loud so much of the time - Michael Collins has a really beautiful sound and is a wonderful musician but there's a lot of shrieking harshness here because he's pushing so hard. And because it's all so big, the performance lacks the kind of calm, reflective chamber music intimacy that it so much calls for.
@@justusniemeyer3333 Boehm system clarinets are the standard pretty much everywhere but Germany, though. I think it's the style of playing more than the instrument itself; plenty of clarinetists can get the sweeter tones without swapping instruments.

He is playing a Boehm-Clarinet - very brahmsy (Boehm-Clarinets have been invented for military music - for the former french empire)
