I’m sure the union is thrilled to back this up 😂

Absolutely! Ours got the academy to limit recruits hours to 40 a week , no more staying late or coming early for free . But then I’ve learned over the years N.Y. unions are far stronger than most other areas .

This was an issue in my police dept about 30 years ago. An arbitrator ruled there is no such thing as comp time. All overtime must be paid out at a dollar rate and slips must be made out at the time the overtime was worked. If he didnt submit any slips when he was in the fire academy then he's SOL. I also doubt any recruits in the fire academy are covered by the firefighters collective bargaining agreement as they're not yet sworn members.

Part of being a chief is the position. Sounds like he’s scamming the taxpayer.

Fire department got caught, probably will do the usual and retaliate. Or is that just for the Police department? 🎅

If it’s not in your contract you’re not entitled to it. Take a test and become a boss if you want comp time.

In many departments, any municipal departments, all that EXTRA pay is often calculated into your pension.....Pretty nice if you can get it...

Maybe everyone in his class gets comp time, of course others will stick up for their Chief officers, the chief is milking this cow dry.

This guy is high if he thinks he should be compensated for the time he spent in the fire academy studying, he was getting paid for his time there as he was getting his regular 42 hour weekly pay. Is it spelled out that the fire academy hours are 0700-1500? Mine wasn't, I showed up each morning and went home when we were dismissed. We had weekly tests so studying was required on my own time as was doing laundry, prepping my uniforms, making my lunch for the next day. He had to complete the fire academy thus he needed to study on his own time just like I did when I attended the Mass Fire Academy, expecting to get paid for study time is absurd. Does he want travel time and mileage reimbursement too??. Also, just a guess but I'll bet the command officers there are under a different contract so if they negotiated comp time but the rank and file didn't and they don't have comp time spelled out in their CBA then he can't get it. I am a union FF IAFF.
