In a total twist of what this song is actually about, this song has always spoken to me. I'm an Australian, and my Danish grandfather, my father's father - "Farfar" - often spoke to me in a broken English with a broken accent when i was a kid - I had no idea what he was saying most of the time.... so the line "you were always saying something" always spoke to me - He died around the time this album came out and i was listening to it..... As I got older, and I found out what a "not nice" person he'd been to my father and his siblings - the rest of the song's lyrics only became more meaningful to me - curious how lyrics mean what you want them to mean, but I really appreciate Guster and their amazing lyrical ability and how it can connect on so many levels! :)

That's the coolest and craziest story of mis-heard lyrics ever.

When you look in the mirror, wish you were somebody else
Just a perfect reflection, you and no one else
Minutes run into hours, hours run into days
You're still waiting for someone who never ever came
    Fa fa-fa fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
    Never be the same again
    Fa fa-fa fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
    Never be the same again
You were always saying something, you swear you'd never say again
You were always saying something, you swear you'd never say again
    Fa fa-fa fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
    Never be the same again
    Fa fa-fa fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
    Never be the same again
Go and run through the hallways, and find your way to the door
You will end up like always, back where you were before
Can you look in the mirror, wish you were somebody else
But it's still your reflection, you and no one else
You were always saying something, you swear you'd never say again
You were always saying something, you swear you'd never say again
    Fa fa-fa fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
    Never be the same again
    Fa fa-fa fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
    Never be the same again
No matter where you go, you'll never find your way home
You'll never find your way home no matter where you go
You were always saying something, you swear you'd never say again
You were always saying something, you swear you'd never say again
    Fa fa-fa fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
    Never be the same again
    Fa fa-fa fa-fa-fa-fa-fa
    Never be the same again

Pro sax player here - Love the crunchy "lady Madonna" horns. Excellent flute solos. Keep up the good horn parts. Really sets your stuff apart.

I found an ipod, not even an ipod just a generic mp3 player in a booth when I was waiting tables at Tortugas in Galveston tx, and this song was on there. That ipod introduced me to guster and minus the bear. Thank you whoever lost that mp3 player.

I remember the first time i heard this song back in 99. I bought some cd's from the music store and sometimes they'd give you a demo cd. It had this song on it and i loved it. Is it weird i remember that 20 years later? I just watched the movie Safety Not Guaranteed and i had to find out who wrote the song Big Machine that he played at the campfire. It led me back here...to...Guster... again.

This reminds me of leaving the friends I made in Michigan, mainly because I listened to this repeatedly until I got to a hotel. I wasn't the same again, I was wracked with guilt because I was too embarrassed to talk to anyone because it had been so long since I talked to them by then. So, yeah I was never the same again

Mike MakesRight I was a teen in the 90s I think we had a longing for the sixties back then the dead was still big the bug came around again which turned out to be kind of a turd lol tie dies where kind of big again a few European punk bands tried to make their way back like oasis eels and a few others I think the months where kind of a confused are all and all I miss them and it was a better time than now just my input

@@jasonjohnson4592 the 60s definitely tried to make a comeback in many ways. reruns of old tv shows on Nick...... not just nick at night, but each day of the week they showcased particular shows like the Monkees. the clothing was also very 60's. bellbottoms (cleverly renamed Flares?) a lot of bands had a 60's vibe going on in their music videos too. oh and austin powers......
