As a Tucsonan, I often see YT channels visiting a few of the bigger places. It's hard to go wrong with these, but the chef from Tito & Pep knows his stuff. He included the main places local foodies usually recommend. My favorite is the chipilon from Nene. Great video!
If you're in town make sure you also get a cabeza taco (Juanitos on Grant, Estillo Cajeme on First) and see a movie at the Loft (a classic from a special series or a b-movie for Mondo Monday).

I have been to Tucson and those dogos (as we call them here in Sonora) really taste like what we eat in Sonora, mainly those from Guero Canelo. In Sonora, the bread is normally steamed instead of toasted. I have traveled all over Mexico and as a hot dog lover I can say that the ones from Sonora are simply the best! But I would like to try some with the toasted bread, it sounds good!

The toasted really does make a huge difference. I’m totally hitting mine with granulated garlic next time I make some at home.

I spent 30+ years in Tucson. The food scene (and music scene) has always been over the top for a city it's size. But the Border food and music (see The Molly's or The Carnivaleros) always led the way. Spent many (many) a lunch time at El Guero Canelo. One Caramelo and two dogs. I was younger then! Good times and great food!

This is probably one of the best videos I've seen on Tucson's eateries. We are blessed with an abundance of locally-owned, unique, interesting restaurants - the Mexican food can't be beat, but it's far from the only cuisine you'll find here. Then again, you've made me a little peckish for some carne asada so I'm off to one of my favorite joints - Paco's on East Grant Road!

I'm from New York and lived there until I was about 24 but since then I have lived in Arizona and I love Arizona and the food is amazing. I laugh at people now back east because it seems that the way they flavor food is with salt, pepper and ketchup and I used to be like that. Now, it's all about the spice and flavor man and I don't touch salt pepper or ketchup anymore, those ingredients should be banned. Having said that I will take a Sonoran Dog over a NY Sabrett, Chicago Vienna Beef or any other dog you wanna throw at me any day of the week!

I'm not sure if "balance" is the right lens with which to appreciate something like this. Consider a Reuben sandwich for instance. Not even kind of balanced. It slaps you round the face with flavour. I think these are better appreciated through the lens of "the dish is more than the sum of its parts". The question should be, "to what extent is the [ingredient] elevating the [other ingredient]?"
