- The National Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system test as seen on three phones and simultaneous National Emergency Alert System (EAS) test as seen on cable TV. The Test was scheduled for 11:18 am PDT. First to alert is a Google Pixel 2 XL with active service; next an old Google Nexus 6P (no active service!); then cable TV.
The LG flip phone with AT&T service does not alert. Notice the TV EAS alert does not quite work properly, coming in late and ending before the announcement finishes.

Pretty neat that the devices read back the alert.
I think thats only for Android devices though.
I have an Android and it does not do that
I had a Samsung S8 and it never read the message back to me.

I believe this is the first time they've tested the Wireless Emergency Alert at the Presidential level (country wide). The TV version (EAS) was tested once before.

those alert things scare the living shit out of me. the noise they make, sends chills coursing through my bones. maybe I've just watched too many disaster movies.

Why is there always a kidnapping during a storm? It seems like everytime there is a bad storm, I get 2 or 3 alerts thinking it's about the storm. When I check, they're all amber alerts.

Anyone ever think how with no wifi or activation that your phone can still get a government issued alert
Maybe it works like a 911 call. Cell towers will still respond even if the phone isn't activated.
My point is that it proves they can take over your device
I think Samsung was able to permanently disable the Galaxy Note 7 by software, so yes, you're at the mercy of the wireless providers, manufacturers, government, etc. when you use a mobile device.

I don't get emergency alerts on my phone, I have them on. I've had others phone do the alert for weather.
I got this alert on my iPhones, IPods (idk why), and iPhone X.
It went off on my iPhone 2G, iPhone 4, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6+, iPhone SE, IPhone X, and IPods 1,3,5, and 6 Gen.
My Tv went off too, including my iPhone X with volume at 100% and headphones all at the same time.

That's why they were running the test. To make sure everyone got the alert. Seeing as many people didn't, that means they have to improve the system.
