You know what. I’d say just play to have fun. If you’re energized enough to accidentally make a castle then make a castle, if you’re feeling slow and relaxed then play slow and relaxed. Castles often had secret tunnels and routes for different reasons, mostly to get out of sieges.
So tunnel to hypno's storage is pretty authentic thing.

I'm really glad wels has come back to consistent Hermitcraft episodes. He is quickly becoming a regular hermit on my watch list this season! I'm loving the light beef with Hypno, and the build is really cool! His thought process is very easy to follow and apply to my own Minecraft building.

Ditto. I was really skeptical of him because he seemed to flake out last few seasons, but he's already uploaded more episodes than last season. In addition, I'm a big fan of Minecraft castles, so his build fits one of my preferences. Also, I'm loving the occasional dog barks in the background. 🐕
@@grondheroimo he was doing vault hunters stuff which i really enjoyed can't say i am unhappy with hermit craft either , the first hermit i consistently watched all the way back in season 5 , before that it was on and off so it's really nostalgic for me
@@linkedlord343 I started watching in Season 6 and he didn't keep up after that. While many Hermits did Vault Hunters, I could never get in to it. I prefer a more vanilla Minecraft (even the hats are starting to get to me here).
The "Detached tower" is often referred to as the Donjon and it is the word the term Dungeon is derived from, where prisoners were kept in a tower away from the castle. Which explains why prisoners like Rapunzel (and other stories) was in a tower.

As far as I know, the Donjon was usually the main building of the castle, frequently not connected to the wall, like a fortification inside the fortification.
And even then that's not aways true, some of them had one wall that was part of the exterior wall.
The part of it sometimes being used as a prison is true.
@@thomasfplm Webster litterally says it's the "massive inner tower". So no, the main building of the castle is most often called the "Keep" not the Donjon. I am sure some sources vary on this, but when most of them call it the "Tower" it's not a main building. You are right that it isn't always separate from the keep, but in this circumstance that tower can easily be classified as a Donjon.
Not trying to be argumentative, but when you comment and objectively oppose me, I'm going to argue my point.

And I recommend you take a look at pictures of Donjons to see the size of what they call a tower, because it can be quite big.
In particular look for it in French as: donjon château fort.

The castle looks so good, Wels. You keep saying you're not a builder like others, but... idk, from my perspective you are a builder in your own right and style.
I weirdly like the dogs giving their input. Although cute pictures of doggo flashing up when they bark would make me very happy!

Does anyone else just love how unhinged the Hermits are this season? 😂 Grian's fisherman personality, Mumbo's uh...llama base, Joel just being himself honestly, Iskall being a menace, Beef's payback (fairly so because of all the pranks being done to him), and now Wells putting a whole tunnel into someone else's storage room xD. I love how much more authentic all of the Hermits' interactions feel this go around!

That Hourglass is just insane, just came from False's Video were i saw it finished... Jesus Christ on a Motorbike... it looks gorgeous but... yeah.. its a little overboard considering the Season is like 3-4 Weeks old 😂

@@vlogerrista6285 For example, he's already gathered most of the wood permits with sweet words and lofty promises, some of which didn't even involve getting a permit in return. The other hermit should know Doc well enough to not fall for his tricks.
Glow lichen is also great for subtle light! toss it on the gray blocks and it'll either fade into the block texture or just turn into cracks from a distance

I love how Hermits like Wels can build a castle in a day, while I struggle to build a 4x4 dirt hut in a day 🤣
And in the background of Wels castle is a hourglass so huge that it makes the castle look small. The Hermitcraft server is a weird place.

Castles is looking amazing! For lighting don't forget about glow lichen. It doesn't have the largest light area but it also adds another layer of texture, so it's nice to put around different areas.
Wouldn't be Hermitcraft without an accidental castle build. Great job.
For the windows, you can use glass panes on the back and the waxed orange copper or aged orange copper grates on the front. Especially since a lot of old Tudor style castles and churches had a lot of Ironwork windows. Fun fact, most of the Iron was forcibly taken by King George ((?) might be wrong on the king's name.)) In order to "Refill the kingdom's coffers" after the hundred years war.
Those flags on the castle are really beautifully shaped!
Now we just need to know what 4 hermitcraft episodes you were watching while mining!
Just watch every hermits videos to be sure!
If they were Doc's episodes he was mining for a while.
I think a small chapel in that half tower out front would be a great choice. As would small houses near the detached tower. That way the central area remains the gathering point, but some folks can live inside the walls without being residents of the castle itself.
If there is one person on the server that deserves an explosion in popularity its Wels. Seems to be a casualty of being around a long time that you don't get the 'new guy boost' that others have benefited from

I love how layfolk-friendly Welsknight's projects are. They don't intimidate us casual builders in our building approaches. Bdubs and Gem and Pearl are Awesome builders, but their builds kind of intimidate me. Welsknight's are simple, and in that regard, shines uniquely. It seems to be the best Building style for vanilla minecraft. Blocky, medieval, smaller scale.
Plus his music taste is just evangelizing.

Yeah, here I was about to worry Wels might be falling back into a "need to build an entire thing for the episode" behavior, then I see *that* happening in the background.
Kinda too big. Like people made skizz scale his pyramid down and then this dwarfs everything.
@@procrastinator547 Skizz still has a full time job, even if he's on sabbatical. Scaling down his build was more about ensuring he doesn't burn himself out in his first season. Doc can do what Doc do best, because that's just how Doc do.

Not only did they not make him, just asked and collaborated with him and he chose to downsize upon conversing.
But also that build was right in the middle of MANY of the other's full-time bases and may have interfered with them a bit hence the suggestions.
Docs build is in the shopping district! Not only is pretty much nothing else major built there yet, so its not interfering as anything can be built around it, and the shopping districts are usually quite eclectic, but its also the LOGS shop - which is a major shop usually. Think about the Log shop last season Gigalogs, it was MASSIVE. :)

I can't describe it, but there's just something about Wel's videos that is just so good. Also, it's fun to see that we're not the only ones using HC episodes to track how long a grind took.
A good idea, if you wont have nothung to bulid cause your land is small, you could build a ship, for refrence, i think the Immperial ship from Skyrim will look dope. Love ypur vids Wels

The way Wels was lurking at the end of the tunnel from Hypno's perspective had me laughing earlier. It was like a toddler proudly waiting for praise after 'surprise redecorating' the wall for their parent. 🤣

a little idea here: when texturing you should add some erosion to that main front bit nearer to where the wall meets the water
also why not try make the window design you added in place of stained glass a sort of emblem to place on banners as whatever kingdom's flag this
I have to say the tunnel into the storage room is one of the funniest bits I have seen on the server this season.
I don’t have any idea what the behind the scenes conversations are like but the ambiguity of not knowing somehow makes it funnier to me.

The Red Roofs contrast excellently with the walls and surrounding area!
I love that Wels also uses “HC episode” as a unit of time. I totally do that, too!
Maybe you could build some weapons like cannons and trebuchets (not much practical use but it´s fantasy style anyway) to give a little more movement and the sense that the build is actually being used. It looks pretty nice but it feels empty. Maybe some strays/skeletons as archers manning the walls.
that is a very nice castle wels, although, seeing docs wood shop in the background seriously puts that shop into scale.
*snort* That’s the hour glass Doc intends to use to hoard all the sand on the server. Little does he know that sand will be mined from underneath, with sandstone holding up the top layers. He needs to stop pouting and scheming for sand-dupers. smh
The lanterns on the banners are genious. From a bit of a distance they look like that golden orb you can sometimes find on flagpoles and I think that is awesome.
That intro made me think you were gonna say “another episode of Kingdoms”, especially with the GIANT CASTLE-

Strategically placed glow lichen will both add texture to the roof and provide minimal lighting to prevent spawning.
I was not expecting the sudden full castle. Was amazing. The build is great, definitely my number one Hermit this season.

Medieval glass texture?! I think mojang should add a crafting recipe of panes of glass with iron bars to give you a sectioned glass texture, like diamond hatching or something. They could even do different designs for each color of glass!
For roof lighting, texturing the reds with some glow lichen in the dark spots would look amazing. I do love the castle, it's very cool :)

Hypno's non-response to the asymmetry dig brought me back to his season 2 tower build, his modded pyramid, and all those times we use to razz him about how stuff was a block off all the time.

Some things just go without saying. This season on Hermitcraft, we're learning exactly how much one needs to actually say. lol
I got to say, I love the Riley noises in the background and also LOVE the vibe the music gives the building time-lapses (so relaxing)
Redstone lamps might look good for the medieval leaf lined windows. Awesome build 👍

With that conversation about hypno seeking asylum at your base if he were getting attacked - it made me think there should be a button somewhere in the middle that could 'collapse' the tunnel behind him. I'm imagining either TNT in the ceiling with gravel above that would fill in the space, or maybe just hidden lava that cut through to catch and kill pursuers.
This has been my favorite base of the season so far, looks really cool!

LOVING the castle! What if you had a little tunnel for boats to come into at the front of the bending deck and you use the bending deck as a covered dock for the boats.
I personally think Redmount might be a cool name for this. Or something like the red dread.
Making hypos side a hidden entrance, a few a faux walls to hid entrances to your side that could be triggered by specific skulk pulses, and perimeter tunnels that lead to other bases and random locations on the server.... Smugglers cove black market achieved

The new copper grates may work for a more medieval window, though the colour options may be a bit jarring
You can illuminate the roof with glowlichen. They are not visible from below and from above it looks like moss and lichen. or bird poop ;-)

If there are spots on the roof you can’t light up indirectly, glow lichen is a great way to subtly spawnproof.
Thats what I'm talking about!!! Amazing build!!!! So much better than previous builts. Can't wait to see this castle detailed.

If you need to texture the roof more, we know from Iskall, Beef, and Cleo that red terracotta works surprisingly well with Netherrack XD
A Hermitcraft episode is a vague amount of time considering four Joel episodes could be watched in the time you've watched a Doc episode 😂😂😂
Loving the diagonal staircase makes it look grand.
The castle is great! The A-frame roof on the middle bit feels like a call-back to the tent!
