iChroma HbA1c Test Kit is certified by NGSP (National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program). It helps diabetic diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis by measuring the glycated hemoglobin concentration (%) in a small amount of blood over the past 3 months.
Human adult haemoglobin in the Red Blood Cells is comprised of HbA (about 97% of the whole blood), HbA2 (about 1.5-3% of the whole blood) and Haemoglobin F (HbF.Hemoglobin A (Hb A) is further divided into HbA1a, HbA1b and HbA1c. HbA1c makes up to 80% of the total HbA. The term HbA1c refers to glycated haemoglobin. It is formed when glucose in the blood, joins with haemoglobin A in a non enzymatic and irreversible reaction, to form this stable compound (HbA1c).
The amount of glucose that combines with Haemoglobin A is directly proportional to the total amount of sugar that is in blood at that time. This means high glucose levels in the blood will lead to a high HbA1c values.
The red blood cells in the human body survive for 90-120 days before renewal. Therefore measuring glycated haemoglobin (or HbA1c) can be used as a useful indicator of the average blood glucose levels over the past 3 months, hence providing a useful longer-term gauze of blood glucose control.
