Two significant and likely related problems with the contemporary law school environment: 1. Funding shortfalls and administrative laziness means the majority of students are expected to detail all their knowedge acquired over the entire semester through a narrow 2.5hr written conduit. Rather than cumulative or piecemeal assessment which motivates proactive learning, 70%, and more often 100%, exams are the norm. 2. Very few students appear willing to make friends or create new social relationships. If one sets out with a goal of making friendly conversation with another student in the lecture during each class, they will end up sorely disappointed as they never hear or see from that other student again. Does students' reluctance to form fresh and positive social relationships (outside their existing social circle) stem from the pressures, and consequently rampant mental illnesses, experienced in law school?
11:02 min ... did they not eat, when, perhaps their body/brain needed to? It's probably not possible to be put in contact with Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG?
He gave a Lecture at the University of WA a few years back.. He is a very good public speaker and is able to come down to the students level and really explain his ideas without all the legalese, great guy.
