Terry, I own a pair of Evoke 20s and I congratulate you on doing an admirable job of describing the Evoke sound. Except for the deeper bass of my speakers with seven inch woofers,, you have described them very well. I find them to be a very pleasant long term listening speaker with no unfortunate anomalies to get in the way of the music.

A great review... I've owned the DynAudio Evoke 10 speakers for just over a year and have enjoyed trying them with a wide range of amps and DACs and they scale very well. I highly recommend a powerful amp for them to sound their best as they can create an awesome soundstage with a deep bass when matched with high end sources. I am using the E10s with a Musical Fidelity M6Si Amplifier, Denefrips Pontus II DAC and BlueSound Node Streamer (2021 model).... audio bliss!
One interesting point I noticed in your review is that your Evoke 10s are made in China whereas my speakers are made in Denmark, I assume this is a recent change in manufacturing for DynAudio? Regardless, they are excellent speakers.

    • @angrygirl7083
      @angrygirl7083 2 роки тому

Thanks for the feedback. My E10s are Made in China. Well, a lot of companies design and engineer their product at home but the actually building of amps and speakers e.g. is done in low cost countries. They are simply fantastic, awesome, and it's wonderful to listen to the music they produce in your room.

    • @thebestoffools
      @thebestoffools 2 роки тому +1

Dynaudio had to move some production of their lower product lines to China because of high demand due to covid. I've heard they are to move some production back to Denmark and to a new facility in Poland around July 2022 I believe. We'll see about that. Nonetheless, I'm sure a company like Dynaudio has very high quality control standards no matter where their products are made. Dynaudio is also mainly owned by a Chinese company since 2014 or 2015.
Note: Their drivers and crossovers are made in Denmark. Only some of their speaker cabinets are build in China.

I noticed this video Review of Dynaudio Evoke 10 was made about 3 years ago. Here it is and its October 2024, and I recently purchased the Dynaudio Evoke 10 Speakers because of the advise of my older Audiophile brother gave me. He purchased a set of Dynaudio "Excite" model before they ended that Series in 2019. The Dynaudio 10 Evoke speakers that I bought said "made in Denmark" on the Speaker, and on the Box they came in. Dynaudio must still Manufacture some Speakers in Denmark. That's my own conclusion. Am I wrong to assume this? Personally, I think that's a good thing.

Very detailed review from Terry. However, What I find puzzling is these Dyns were tested with a 5k+ Tucana amp, yet when Terry reviewed the Pulse IV (2k), he used Kef Reference 3 speakers, which are 10k+. For me I think the Pulse would be a great match for the Dyns, despite only being 80 watts p/c. My MK1 Pulse sounded great with Special 40s.

Another great review - thank you.
Decent looking unit - the cabinet looks almost identical to the AE 500's, which is no bad thing as they look great!
That's an awful lot of work for the tweeter to do with the crossover that low, but it sounds like they made it work.
I imagine I'd like the rolled off treble as I'm not keen on harsher shouty type speakers and don't mind a little warmth (I'm an AMT user, cant get enough of AMT tweeters)
I have to say you've done a fine body of work with this group test, I almost wish I was in the market for some stand mounts so I could get even more involved. I'm a floor stander guy though and having recently bought some new speakers I'm finding it hard to imagine ever wanting new ones again!
Its been a pleasure watching these reviews drop and I look forward to your next work which I know I will enjoy! Thank you.

13:09 there are measurements and then there are your ears gentleman. Once you realize that your taste in music isn't exactly audiophile label ready? You will then begin to realize why they are voiced the way they are.
Especially where the Tweeter has to drop off in the very upper ranges, this seems counterintuitive for $1,000 speaker. And at first glance, the measurements tell one story but then your ears seem to tell you the same thing at first.....
As you go through your catalog of music, you begin to realize there is a reason for the famous DynAudio sound. Music that you enjoyed listening to. Soundtracks that fill you with happiness. The gut pounding Rage or energy from that Killer Rif, or memories of the live concert venue comes out exactly like you remember it!
think of the first set of Cerwin Vegas you had in your dorm or at your house and you had your first house party. or how the very first time you went out with that special someone and you had the time of your life while blasting the Tunes in a parking lot late at night.
The sound touches your soul in a way that other speakers just don't seem to recreate from acoustical memory. (I.E. , the way your mind remembers it)
that's the magic that this company and its drivers are designed to do at every single performance just for you.
if you listen to a lot of live recordings you'll realize that many of them are filled with faults and other things that are less than desirable. you still hear them but they're presented to you in a way that is non boisterous and in fact reminds you more of the real life performance like if you were there or how the person who recorded it heard the event if that makes any sense.
if you are at all familiar with Martin Logan's electrostatic speakers and how they are literally the last word in absolute razor-sharp detail and will reveal every single fault on the recording you will understand why some things are tools and some things are a sand rail you take out to the dunes and have a great time with on the weekends.
The best analogy I can give you is that you probably have friends, and if you have friends? You probably have dynaudio speakers.
in the review he mentioned how piano sounded so great during his addition and that's one thing that the Dinah audio line of products probably do better than just about any other Dynamic loudspeaker.
it's not the very last word in detail but in the way it does its presentation it seems like it is if that makes any sense.
let me put it this way, if you own a convertible? You're going to love these speakers. That's the best way I can describe the sound in the way they make you feel when you're playing back your favorite music tracks.
take note that I'm not saying that these speakers mask any details. What they do is that they present music in a way your ears actually perceive the sounds that you're hearing around you Pleasant and enjoyable to experience.
imagine for example being in your home and it starts to rain.
You have the deck sliding door open.
You can hear the droplets pitter patter on items you have outside.
At the same time, you play a track from the HiFi.
You enjoy the the sound coming through over the crackle of the fireplace.
Its almost like a Zen thing. It just sounds right.
That the DynAudio sound if you ask me.

I feel the rolled off top end of the Evoke's was a departure from the famous Dynaudio house sound, as I've heard noted in some reviews. In the Dynaudio products I've owned including several of their active and passive studio monitors, the top end is usually crisp and detailed. Luckily the studio monitors offer bass and treble controls to help dial them in for your room, wall proximity and tastes. The online demos I've heard seem to mirror what's described in the review, recessed vocals and rolled off top end, leaving me with the impression that I'm missing something and wanting to lean in to the mix to try and hear more.

I had the ATC SCM 11's that I traded in for the Dynaudio Evoke 20's thinking it would be an improvement. After running them in for 100 hrs.+, I returned them to the dealer and got my ATC's back. I really could not get on with the Dynaudios. In my case, the ATC's are more revealing and refined. I found the Dynaudios fatiguing whereas I can listen to the ATC's forever. I also find the ATC's easier to position.

I should mention the back plate with 'made in china' is shown several times in this video.
That's actually a plus point now as china is making some of the finest hi fi and a lot of items made in china perform well above their price point. My own Wharfdale Evo 4.4's are a great example - I was prepared to pay up to £3k for some speakers, but the evo's beat everything I tried them against even at only £1200. I'm happy with the value proposition , and that I'm running a British design, but I wish we could still manufacture them here for a similar price. I'd have paid another £200 to have made in Britain on them, but I'm possibly an exception...

These to me are (easily) the best small room loudspeakers on the market. You do need a high current amplifier such as Rotel or Hegel to make them sing though, which is what they were deliberately designed to match.
