To keep the baits from tearing at the head, try cutting off a tiny bit of heat shrink and heating it onto the nose of the bait. Then, rig the hook through the shrink AND the bait giving it a nice tight fit. A little tip I picked up from Gene Jenson a while back that really works on drop shot and wacky rigs.
Jay believe it or not I only started using the drop shot rig about 7 years ago, to put some context on that I am 34 and have been fishing since I was a boy, so I was little behind the trend. Its been a game changer on clear lakes especially LOTW, I have found it outperforms the classic jig and a minnow. Fantastic rig!!!
Nice video Jay, and it was cool hearing the story of your guiding mishap on the Bent podcast today. It was a cool surprise to hear you introduced while listening.
Definitely plan on dropshotting more this year, as for lure making I've been looking into making bismuth jigs as a cheaper alternative to tungsten for lead free areas. Bismuth is slightly less dense than lead but not significantly so it makes a good alternative in theory and not requiring the insane pressure of tungsten and relatively low melting point means I could produce a ton of weights and jigheads for myself that are nontoxic and only slightly larger than lead for the same weight...being less dense it probably won't mark as well so probably not an issue open water but may be a bit of an issue come ice. Love any feedback from people who have made or used bismuth jigs if there are any pretty sure it's been done.
When can we see Taro and “Jimmy” utilizing some of that Perch powder? I think there should be a upcoming catch and cook spice blend cooked up with Taro for this task... IMO great to see angler collab. Anyways awesome content Jay as always!
Gonna try this in a week when walleye opens here! Thanks Jay Haven't seen much from CSO, is everything ok with him and the family? Maybe he has the spring blahs waiting for the ice to retreat off the lakes
The first time I ever used a drop shot rig in a little late I caught a nice size perch. Didn't even know there was perch in there I was going for trout
I love the fact the uncut made a video on the "challenge" of catching a 7 striped perch and all his friends on youtube are just crushing 7 stripe perch lol
Jay: To fill the plastic injector push the plunger all the way down. Insert injector into the cup of hot soft plastic. Pull the plunger up and the plastic will be sucked into the injector just like using a straw. This avoids the possibility of pouring molten hot plastic on your hand.
@@JimmySeahawk LOL! I just thought these guys rely on their electronics SO MUCH its like video game fishing. It would be interesting to see them go old school fishing and put their skills to the test.
Drop shot weights are an expensive rip off. 1/4 oz. removable split shot weights do the same thing and don't get snagged, but pull off easily if they do. If you leave a long tag end, your weight distance from the hook can easily be adjusted.
Clay vs Jay walleye opener 👍
I've always used a palomar knot or a dropper loop knot for drop shot, that uni knot with doubled line is brilliant! I will need to try it out. Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for watching the vid!

Great idea!
That works great for wacky rigging.

I agree!!
I like how you explain fishing tactics that are understandable to everyone. Thank you
Thanks for the tips jay I’ve always wanted to use a drop shot but never knew how to tie the knot
Nice video Jay, and it was cool hearing the story of your guiding mishap on the Bent podcast today. It was a cool surprise to hear you introduced while listening.
Thanks for listening!
I'm just a casual fisherman. But your videos are so entertaining. Keep up the good work.
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
I love the drop shot! Always have a drop shot rod rigged and ready on the boat. Such a universal technique.
Agreed!

Thanks for adding this! Pretty difficult (for me at least) to come across enough lead.
Videos like this really set you apart from everyone. Thanks for the information and entertainment, Jay!
So nice to hear! Thank you!!
It is fun doing outside sports on homemade stuff. I get the same feeling on bullets I make for my rifle
Totally!!
Good information whether old or young, keep your amazing videos coming, Jay!!!
I appreciate that!
Such a sweet video Jay 👊🏼 Love the educational vids!
Finally I can watch when posted! No doubt gonna be an amazing video 🙌
Thank you! I hope you liked it!
@@JaySiemens absolutely!
The BEST snag remover available. 😂 Loving those molds Jay. The cloudiness of the white was just right.
Thank you for the tutorial! This will be one of my set ups for opener in Minnesota this year.
Thats great! Hope you're getting on them!
I love fishing the drop shot for any kind of panfish, I feel like it's underrated
Definitely!

Hopefully soon! Still pretty restricted here in Ontario!
Thank you so much for sharing your tips Jay! Great demonstration of the drop shot!
Great video Jay. Informative as usual.
So enjoy your easy to follow explanations and techniques. and your great videography. Keep up the good work. Happy fishing.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Another masterpiece! Thanks Jay!
Thank you!!
Always appreciate a good tactic video!🙌
Glad you like them!
Cool video Jay!
Got to be fun to create baits for specific situations.
For sure!
i caught over 50 perch 2 walleye and 1 pike with the dropshot. the best rig ever
solid video. Super bummed I can't get up there. Keep the videos coming Jay!!
Hopefully soon! I'll do my best!
Great video like always! I always like the videos with you making a new bait, then putting them to use!
More to come!!
Great video, I always wondered how those were made, definitely going to try the drop shot method this year
Best of luck!!
Love the videos keep the good work up
Thank you!!!
Great video dude! 5 minutes and I remember how to rig haha
Awesome video, nice to see them again. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching!
Mabe a fish will unsnag it!!! 2 seconds later!!! Awesome
Nice! Thanks for the tutorial!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Good video but curious what sonar system you're using and if you have recommendations for those. Thanks
I cought my PB smallmouth on a drop shot(7.35 pounder) great video and nice fish.
Thats awesome!
Gonna try this in a week when walleye opens here! Thanks Jay
Haven't seen much from CSO, is everything ok with him and the family? Maybe he has the spring blahs waiting for the ice to retreat off the lakes
CSO is unstoppable!

Oh awesome!
Hey I really liked this video! Had to watch it on silent at work lol. What sonar unit is that?
Side note, I'll never use a Palomar to tie my drop shot again :)
15:00 this works if your bait gets torn open, just melt it back together with a lighting
Very nice tutorial for beginners!
Thank you!!
I love the fact the uncut made a video on the "challenge" of catching a 7 striped perch and all his friends on youtube are just crushing 7 stripe perch lol
Haha I paused to see if they were 7 stripers
He cut 7 stripes in his beard though. Thats commitment.
Do u ever tie the drop shot on or just hook it through the clamp?
Do you do guided tours Jay? Great video!!
I do not. But thanks for watching the video!!
You should take a trip to southern Ontario to the bay of quinte, one of the best bays for walleye it connects to Lake Ontario
One day!
Wow nice fish
Thanks!!
You should show uncut angling that you caught a 7 stripped perch. I think that was like a challenge he tried doing.
lets see a transducer/graph setup for your panoptix!
Showed it off in my previous video
Way to rep it on Bent this week!
Thanks for listening!
Love your videos! Looking forward to seeing more
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching them!
@@JaySiemens You bet!
I love dropshotting in heavy current, you can still have a finesse presentation but use a large amount of weight to stay where you want to be.
Exactly!
Is there a particular time/season when this is more and less effective?
couple of seven stripe perch as ole Aaron Weibe would say
Hey Jay great video. My son is getting into making baits. Where do you get your moulds from?
Do-It Molds
So true on the drop shot, great for kids, saves some hang ups. some... not all. haha.
haha yes good point
Really like the vid ! VERY Good !
Glad you liked it!! Thank you!!
What rod are you using? Length and stiffness?
HELLO WHAT BRAND IS YOUR FISH-FINDER?
You beat Aaron in the 7 stripe perch challenge!
Not sure anyone can truly beat Aaron!
14:17 “Nice very smallmouth”

Wouldn’t that take away some of the fun and excitement of it ? lol
@@arthurwalowski9767 Only if you're into pain. lol
Great suggestion! Thanks!
@@JaySiemens I just don't want you to burn your hand.
have you done any kayak vids?
Done one now! More to come!
anyone know what mounts jay uses for his Finders?
I think they’re ram mounts
Can you use two hooks
When can we summon the spice and the heat?
Its about time!
@Jay Seimens where did you get the molds and the plastic to make your own lure/ baits
Do-It Molds
Might be time for a McDonalds coffee intervention jay...
1 coffee for me and 1 tea for Sam on Sunday mornings!
Where do u have the livescope transducer mounted at?
I show the mounting process in the Top Three Spring Lure video
Omg first time I’ve seen someone use their middle fingers to tie a uni knot. Game changwr
Dumb question. But is drop shotting successful for ice fishing?
I don't usually, but you could!
Was that second perch a 7 striper?!
I think so!
Which Alumacraft model is that?
185 Competiter

Drop shot for beginners? I've been using it for years. Always have at least one rod rigged up with dropshot.
Beginners AND experienced anglers!
If you grew up in the 90s, lure making is essentially creepy crawlers for your adult self, so catch a fish on a creepy crawler!
