This was absolutely my favorite sub line of the 80s Joes. The soldiers and vehicles were amazing, and the Destro figure was as good, if not better than the original.

My first-ever Joe's were Outback and Dr mindbender and Croc Master i loved them to bits, I was then given a huge collection by a guy in my highschool class ( Cheers Shane Gordon) from memory there were two mobile battle bunkers❤ the white snow vehicle with tracks and skis at front with carosell in middle for about 10 Joe's? The Hydrafoil? And a half dozen smaller vehicles. Also was about 100 figures, all weapons ,electronic backpacks etc I truly miss every single one of them, having. Not seen those figs for over 30 years it's a walk down memory lane watching this, big hello from New Zealand ✌️
I had the same situation where I was given a massive amount of GIJoes by a friend that was getting more into video games, and losing interest in GIJoe. I’m pretty sure it was 1989, or 90 because these exact figures were in the bunch.
Black and gold is a top tier color combo for 80's toys.
We need every single one of these figures in Classified series. All of them. For some odd reason Wild Boar was one of my favorite GIJoe figures
I lost practically all my childhood toys over the years for a variety of maddening reasons, but I still have my Thunder Machine and Destro's Despoiler. No figures with either, but I keep them near and dear to my old and crusty heart these days.
So the Irongrandier BAT is something that Classified came up with? It makes sense since Mars makes bats. it sounds like all of Destros stuff was pretty cool and I love the transformations gimmik. great video mate wonderful way to wake up this morning. be well

Yeah just like how the Crimson Guard BAT wasn't part of the original line. Hasbro certainly got their mileage out of that BAT mold with all the different repaints.

I wanted that gold masked Destro , so bad when I was a kid, but could never get him.
This was amazing! Me and my brother didn't get most of the G.I.Joe vehicles or figures back in the day. So this is really great to see videos covering the toys & their box lore. Thanks for another fantastic look into my childhood toys! ❤😮

Thank you for this. The Iron Grenadiers passed me by, I think at this point in my youth my attention had shifted over to TMNT. But I always thought that the Iron Grenadiers were an awesome concept; so I am happy to see this deep dive into them.

Didn’t realize how many Grenadiers I had as a kid, including some vehicles. Still have about 4 figures, dunno what happened to Darklon’s motorcycle deal, but I have the figure.
I really enjoyed this development direction for Destro. This whole concept that he was a more competant leader than CC & that his troopers were more capable than the basic Cobra trooper. Perhaps even better than the basic Viper. I've always loved the IG aesthetic.
As a kid, I had an Iron Grenadier, also an Annihilator. Then eventually, a loose IG Destro. My buddy had an Under tow & TARGAT. In the modern Joe line ( 2008 - 2018 ), I have a growing army of IG forces, including MARS troopers.
Yeah, if Sunbow had continued, I would have liked to see the Iron Grenadiers replace Cobra as GI Joe's main enemy.
So cool! I loved these I.G and had 90% of them, unfortunately 1991 was my last year for joes and toys in general ya know starting high school puts a damper on that kind of fun. Thanks for the memories Mr Mercy

I loved the Grenadiers when they came out, especially as they all shared the same black and red scheme. Then they came out with a purple and orange guy, a magenta and gold guy, a grey guy… things quickly fell apart.
My favorite figure in this faction was the main Iron Grenadier trooper. It was such a wonderfully designed sculpt.
Metal Head had become a favorite more recently when a couple years ago my friend pointed out I now resemble the figure that came out when I was I was 12 (though I didn’t then)… and the Classified version that came out a few months ago is nearly a dead ringer for me
Also… I hated that the Iron Grenadiers eventually just got rolled into being a sub-group of Cobra. That sucked

I really loved this one Mike and metal head was my fav cobra character during the dic episodes and I love his classified figure I still wish I could get a couple range vipers from Walmart! Hopefully we get. Destro iron grenadine repaint fig soon …

I love the inclusion of Piper but only wish that he had been included earlier when Sarge was still prominent. Imagine those two promoting GI Joe in the ring while also doing the voices for the cartoon. That would have been legendary 😎
That would have been epic! Live action commercial bumper where Roddy has the Sarge in a sleeper hold as we go to commercial, and then Roddy's in the clutch when we come back. 😊 Piper was 'retired' from WWF at that time and doing movies so it actually could have worked out.
I dont think Ive ever seen the Nullifier before. Thats a rare occurrence. Actually some of the vehicles are new to me. Funny how you can miss these things even when you spend all your free time looking at toys!
Update: After making this post, I went on Ebay and looked under my usual search VTG and immediately saw 2 Nullifiers within the first 5 pages haha
The Nullifier figure was designed to be a part of Cobra-La army originally. Just found that out last month.
Yup, but he looks more techno than organic so I think he works better as a Grenadier.

This isn't the brittle type of gold plastic. It's flexible. That hinge on the Demon that connects the treads would be fragile no matter what it was made of though.

I have the modern figure mint on cardback and signed by Maurice LaMarche as he was the Destro in the....ugh, the DiC series... At least he did admit to me Arthur Berghardt was the best Destro voice
This group was the rivals to Battle Force 2000. They actually lasted longer than that group.
And were much cooler. Way better vehicles too.

I love the IG subset. For some reason Destro striking out on his own just made perfect sense. It also worked in toy form as he was the guy who was known for making bleeding edge tech, so crazy vehicles made sense. Finally the black/gold/red color palette is just perfect "bad guy" colors. Great timing as well with the IG Classified figures recently announced.
Nullifiers are theorized to be a Cobra-La figure that got repurposed, right?
I always wonder if the Iron grenadiers toys were successful? I really liked them at the time but why did they not carry on making them? Why did they introduce them in the first place from a business perspective?
I really liked Metalhead's figure and his portrayal in the show when I was a kid. However, I can't look at that face today without seeing Dr Disrespect.
I had discovered girls by this point, so I missed all these. But it’s a great subline and I’ve since collected most of them as a now 50-year-old man, which isn’t weird at all.
I missed most of them too at this point but a friend had almost all of them. One of the best subgroups of the vintage line. Too bad the Sunbow show wasn't still going when they showed up.

Okay this all began in 1988 and the movie came out in '87, so I figure Hasbro had the Iron Grenadiers in mind before the movie came out due to designing and manufacturing. That said I always felt the GI Joe Movie should have had Destro leave Cobra and debut the Iron Grenadiers as the 3rd faction instead of the whole Cobra-La crapola we got served. Those guys I believe would have fit into Inhumanoids better as a 3rd faction. Now had I any say I'd have pushed the story like this; fed up with C.C. & Serpentor, Destro leaves Cobra after learning of the BET and forges ahead with the The way I would change things is cobra goes after the bet During the chaos the Baroness gets captured Then Destro actually hires Zartan and the dreadnox To locate the bet and the location of the Baroness. They break her out and because of Falcons Goof up 3 Joe's get injured The court martial he gets sent to the slaughterhouse but in the meantime the Baroness goes with Destro and I would have had her leave cobra. then it's A two way race between Cobra dealing with a power struggle and Destro to get the bet. It's just my idea and it needs some polishing but you guys get the idea. I have a feeling that could have actually worked out better than what we got stuck with
