    Thanks for taking us along! You are blessed to have so many parks. In TX it would take 2 solid days and over 300 miles to do what you did from my QTH in Leakey, Tx. 73, Don K1DLA

    Great stuff, you two. I really enjoy your videos, Michael, and it's really great when you and Joe do videos together. I have learned a lot from you all about portable operations and thank you both for all of your work! W4MMR

    My wife worked in Green Lake before we moved to NY. Was a long commute for her as we lived in Weyawega. Loved living there, wish we'd move back at some point.

    Looks like Joe & you were having fun....fun video to watch. The hamburger and fries looked great! How does the Battery work....doesn't the FT-891 have a large current draw, even just running 50 Watts? Thanks

    • @joeschoebel1458
      @joeschoebel1458 15 днів тому

      That hamburger was thicc...

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  15 днів тому +1

      Current draw on the Ft-891 is often overstated. It pulls about 1 amp on receive and transmit is whatever mode/power setting you are using. I had a 20ah battery with us and we used only about 6ah for the day. I can get several hours of hard use out of that battery with the rig set to 50 watts. Last month I made over 400 phone contacts in three hours before the battery depleted. There are some things you can do to lessen its consumption, like turning off the DSP and lowering the LCD brightness.

      @@KB9VBRAntennas Thank you very much for the information. I usually run QRP CW with a KX2 for SOTA but just bought the FT-891 for "picnic table" POTA. Sounds like your battery will work great running CW at 50 Watts with the 891. Tnx agn for the great videos. Still thinking about the burgers you & Joe had :-)

    I have set up in the right-of-way of a 161Kv transmission line and had an S0 noise floor. I was flabbergasted. It was a 3-fer location or I wouldn't have set up so close to them.

    • @KB9VBRAntennas
      @KB9VBRAntennas  16 днів тому +1

      I've set up in the vicinity of power lines too, not directly overhead, though. It's a crapshoot if they are going to generate noise or not.

    • @TheBrennan90
      @TheBrennan90 16 днів тому

      My first activation yesterday was 150ft from high voltage transmission lines and had s0 noise as well. I googled the heck out of that one!
