The Air Is on Fire is a soundtrack album by David Lynch came out in 2007. It was used for a exposition for the "Fondation Cartier" This is the full album.
It's 4:45am in Los Angeles. Misty drizzle and wet sidewalks walked to 711 to get cigs. Beautiful... First time I heard or listened to this album. Great soundtrack to my life tonight while I was working on attaching bones, feathers and shaping wings out of palm fronds to my Angel mask project. Quite pleased. Also, twinded 2 pairs of dried chicken claws and it looks great hanging from ceiling. I don't know why I do things like this. Ideas like this enter my mind. It comes in steps and evolves. When I was in grade school, there were times my family, teachers and friends would ask me... "Why do you create these strange things." I would reply... IDK. My mom a couple of years back while looking at my photography along with other family members during the holidays in 2019. Mentioned to me that I am still doing my strange style of photography (50 years). My family all had storys about my creations and it was nice muxh laughter. However, she mentioned that I told her in 8th grade that I see the world differently and tried to explain to make her what I meant. I finally told her that the closest example in my vision and angles and most important the mood & feeling is like a David Lynch movie. She thought sarcastically "Oboy that's just great, D.L. movies give me nightmares and I have no idea what going on. My poor son that must be terrible. He'll grow out of it." I forgot all about this. I'm happy, doing fine. Thanks David.
There's a moment about 40 minutes in, where you can faintly hear instruments playing from far away, just out of reach. Like they're coming from a record player in a basement, in a house, behind a thin veil from another world. It was absolutely haunting and gave me goosebumps.
David Lynch played this part on a vintage Optigan organ by Mattel. The disc used is called Big Band Beat. I own two Optigans both have their quirks ( in a good way) you can flip the optical discs to play them in reverse or even put two discs in at once for even more strangeness. Instant Lynch sound.

"I always think about music a lot because music is, takes pacing in time and it goes through many of the same steps that a film goes through. In order to get this feeling here, certain things have to have proceed to that and they have to be a certain way and if those things are done correctly, when you hit this, you get a result. And that's the power of music and the potential power of cinema."(David Lynch)
Jorge and Alfonso, I'm a composer and a Lynch enthusiast, just getting deeper into film scoring/sound design. if your films are ready and you would like to collaborate, feel free to contact me.
This is probably one of the best dark ambient soundtracks I've ever heard, and not just because of David Lynch's name on it. I get the feeling I'm going to come back to this album quite often.
literally what i felt, but in my imagery, it's on the dark mountain and forest and literally being followed by unknown black creature everytime i hike on that mountain
i think this soundtrack is absolutely stunning!it's dark, it's creepy, it's eerie, it's mysterious and incredibly fascinating. A great contribution to experimental music, that could certaintly fit into one of his movies. David Lynch is a f...genius!!!!
Downloaded this and quite often use it to help me sleep (Because it's beautiful, not because it's boring) David Lynch is adorable and I love his work and I want to shake his hand/give him a hug.
haha i used to listen to this to sleep when i was in junior and senior year of high school. would literally setup my speakers each night on the nightstand that spans the entire head of my bed and play this -- would have the best dreams as a result of it. gonna try it again now
Sensitive... .. would like to listen longer but have a group chat commitment scheduled. Luv ya David Lynch and all the good work you have out in the 🌎✌️☮️🕊️😌💖👩🦳
1 time, I was dying for a pee at the beginning of 3.5 hour bus journey. The bus driver wouldn't stop. The Crazy Clown album got me through it. Davy's Strange beat my urgency 🐺

It's called "slow 30s room" and was used in Giant's apartment in Twin Peaks The Return. Pretty nice track.
Reminds somewhat the ending of Shining... creepy all right
in Mulholland Drive there's also this effect at the creepiest moments
starting around @46:52 just lovely

I listened this album 30 times when i wrote mi screenplay. It's the perfect pill to the inspiration.
I'm doing exactly the same, my friend.

How did it went? i listen to this and Trent Reznor´s Social Network score, also Birdbox is great (the movie is bad tough)
So where is the screenplay?
Any updates on that screenplay?

Listening to this feels like walking in a dark system of unknown tunnels, with the terror of being followed and the awareness of being watched.

To go to sleep...To what? A nightmare of being chased? Lol

I really wish more artists would use ambient soundscapes like this for their exhibits.
1h of streaming inner visions.
Powerful as usually Lynch is.
Opening doors to somewhere.
Just when I think I've seen and heard it all....I find another treasure.
Why has he not worked with cEvin Key of Skinny Puppy and Dead Voices on Air... This is AMAZING. Loving me some Lynch right now.
Listening to this an hour before finals 😩
How did it go?

46:40 to be exact - very Eraserhead. It's my favorite section in the piece.
I hear this and those clouds are moving
Wonderful album, such a great mood. And when "Slow 30s Room" hit, my mind was completely blown
I think I am having a Deja Vu with ERARSER HEAD and this music
Perfect editing music.
Thanks for the music.
Thanks for uploading this, I'm happy I just discovered this and other albums from David. Beautiful!
Lynch es el más grande. Gracias, old man.
Thanks. I use it for sleeping and to have special dreams and also as a background while i work or read
Listening to this whilst sketching a memory from my early childhood.
Only one David Lynch. When he's gone, there ain't no more Crazy Clown Time.
Good soundtrack for life.
Love this!
A mi me parece perfecto para lo que es, música para ambientar su exposición de pintura en Paris. Totalmente acorde y totalmente Lynch.
the best mind simply david lynch.
What a masterpiece...
Amazing music for meditation, you transcend without trying, careful not to be woken up prematurely.
this album is making me feel so jealous of his sharp skills

On the nosey.

This is the best!
this album brings to mind of being close to a massive factory with steam billowing with a faint glow on a bitter cold night
Or maybe a couple of 'creeps' trying to out-creep each other in a dark, lonely and cold NYC!!
Thanks for sharing ! GREAT! Its great and outside is sunny day...what wil be when the night fall? We will see!:)
It's like a noir movie and every listener could imagine a scenario
Sensitive... .. would like to listen longer but have a group chat commitment scheduled. Luv ya David Lynch and all the good work you have out in the 🌎✌️☮️🕊️😌💖👩🦳
Dunno why this isn't on his Spotify; it's great!
Impressively oppressive, like the feeling before a tornado touches down.
Love is in the air
its like an hour long of anxious building suspense

From about 4 minutes in, it has a Tim Haywood-ish quality. I am now dreaming of a world where these two artists collaborate...
Tim is a big fan of David Lynch

Why don't you have nightmares?
I do but they're so unbelievably ridiculous that I just strap myself in and go along for the ride.

Is that 30s slow room in 46:50, from Twin Peaks: The Return?
Woah wtf that's awesome
Yeah it is, well spotted man.
Cool spot
Perfect music to listen to when you're studying at the Mark13records site.
it's a shame the newest physical reissue of this is 14 minutes shorter. Even the digital download.
Gotta light?
This is the sound of the Universe itself.
Very Enoesque...
He looks like Brian Eno for the beauty of the composition but Brian Eno doesn't make David Lynch's kinetic masterpieces.
✨
No, Mr. Lynch! That's just the Northern Lights!
Perfect for bad acid trips! haha nah... I love DL!!
Götterdämmerung
Headphones plugged in while I read The Conspiracy Against The Human Race.
