The old layout would be so great for WEC.
This video makes me happy and sad at the same time. Such a great track and now... nothing
Thank you for the tour! I walked the old circuit a couple of years ago, while in town for a running race on the new circuit. It was eerie but beautiful, and easily accessible too. Would recommend to anyone who is able!
I so miss the long straight lines or the power of the v10s being able to sing,
it's really sad
why tf is the Jim Clark memorial in such bad condition?
It used to be along side the track near a spectator area. Now it's a half a mile out in the woods surrounded by nothingness.
Because it's awkward to get to, I guess and people see the new memorial by the current track and don't realise it's nowhere near the location of the accident . Shame we didn't get to see the Bert Hawthorne memorial next to Jim's out in the forest (assuming it's still there). Would also be nice to see something similar for Patrick Depailler at the Ostkurve and Markus Hottinger on the exit of the first turn .
@ohiopower There are two memorials now. One on the crash site which you see in the video. And on near a spectator area.
@chrishall2211 The Bert Hawthorn memorial is next to the Jim Clark memorial at the current track. On the crash site I saw only the Jim Clark memorial.
Hello my friend I really loved the video. Yes the old circuit tracks were always better than the newer ones are today
Makes me sad watching this. love the old layout.
The video is ok. Though, with immense love and respect for what you do and that nobody else does, a bit confusing and somewhat less accurate than all of your videos, which all have a very high standard for thoughtful shots and "nerdy" approach. Loved it nonetheless ❤
I thought for a second of doing this for Paramount Ranch in CA... but there's REALLY very little left now, and the best preserved parts of it are hidden under large oak trees
Can't say it often enough how cruel it was to destroy the old Hockenheimring!
The new layout is actually not that bad and produces good races
And the old layout was not that good. Long straights and chicanes. Boring actually. But it was an unique circuit with it's own character. However not a drivers circuit and not beloved by the drivers, only by the fans, it was a funny track once a year and made some alternation on the calendar.
I was just there with my metal detector in the stands on the east curve. Unfortunately, I didn't find much
I would have kept the circuit open to a limited capacity, to be used for bike riding and walks through the forest.
Totally ruïnes the track with the rebuild back in the early 2000 th
this was an absolute crime. i don't even consider the new track race worthy.
Top speed or slip streaming or hard braking in forest area, Lost of individuality is still unfortunately.
However Hockenheim was never my favorite track, I agree with that. It was a very remarkable circuit that provided the necessary variety on the calendar.
The financial help was Really really low. They have been denied a lot of help, which is why they never recovered financially to this day.
Thanks for the aditional information. The sad thing is that it was all for nothing after all.
It's silly. Spent all that money to not to lose the GP. And ended up losing it anyway. All while destroying one of the great tracks in Europe.
@@Circuitsofthepastit didn’t help that in the long-layouts last year it got invaded by protesters
Heartbreaking that they destroyed this track and its history. Why not just let it age and deteriorate naturally and gracefully and let history buffs enjoy exploring. Even make it a tourist attraction. Opportunity missed
😳😳😳😳😳😡😡😡😡😡
Mr. Clark's memoriam is at the place where he actually died. Even if you follow where the track used to be,you easily miss it. When I'm at Hockenheim I still take a walk there to pay my respect. It also doesn't help that they built a new memoriam near the Tilkedrome so younger people simply think that's it. Aside from that, my heard still bleeds every time I'm at Hockenheim. I only had the opportunity once to see the old turbocharged F1's blasting through the rain through the forest, no traction control, no flappy-paddle gearboxes.. Glorious, I'll remember it forever..
Indeed. And unsuspecting hikers will wonder why there is a monument in the middle of the forest.
