    How can’t you confuse winner and winter then???

    I've lived in the States all my life (West Coast and Midwest) and dropping the t sounds very unnatural to me in all but the word twenty. I'm not sure if this is entirely accurate.

      I agree with you Rebekah. And "twenny" only if you are counting to one hundred as fast as you can!

    Do TV newscasters read this way on TV news or school teachers teach this at schools in US?

    • @AccurateEnglish
      @AccurateEnglish  Рік тому +1

      Teachers don't need to teach this to native speakers because accent is not taught to native speakers. Yes, this is standard American English. You will also hear newscasters speaking this way.

    *sigh * I do love the crisper sound of the t-version, but I'm also tired of being recognized as an ESL person. Out with the _t,_ then... And thanks for explaining that bit about the _nt._ 😊

    • @robyn3349
      @robyn3349 Рік тому

      The King's Daughter, you can keep the "T". If you are recognized as ESL, that is not the reason.

    Hello Miss, but " twenty " is academic than "twenny"

    • @AccurateEnglish
      @AccurateEnglish  Рік тому +2

      It’s not necessarily more academic in American English. The T is usually skipped even in academic environments.

    • @robyn3349
      @robyn3349 Рік тому +1

      Kheira, I agree with you. "twneey" and "winner" are a sloppy or low american accent.

  • @robyn3349
    @robyn3349 Рік тому +3

    Oh, I must differ with you. The T may be softened - sometimes, but it it there. (Native speaker here.)
