- Lawmakers in Lesotho are set to discuss whether the country should seek to reclaim some parts of South Africa. The Kingdom wants to have the Free State province, parts of the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal. Let's look at this further now with Director of the UJ Centre for Africa-China Studies, Prof. David Monyae.

It's much easier to incorporate the country into South Africa than it will be capturing or reclamining even a single square meter from South Africa. There's really no point in having a country within a country, especially with so many cultural similarities between the two.
There is so much history on cultural differences in the past especially amongst the african people. The zulu and xhosa tribes have cost many lives due to this. One must not forget that at the end of the day there must be democracy and its the will of the people that should not be ignored. Above money we all want peace, and the majority of africans do not want to be forced into something such as wealth to rob their peace and cost lives. It might be better to leave each one to his own territory. It is a well known fact in nature that you cannot put lions and sheep together. It will mean the extinction of sheep. But lions florish in their own territory and same applies to sheep. When the grazing teritory has been depleted they will migrate to where they can survive, yet its the law of nature....the fittest survive.❤

If we had all those differences then we wouldn't be here, sharing a whole country equally, amongst a dozen different languages. For the mere fact that we have seSotho in our official languages and Free State is predominantly seSotho speaking, it is clear we share more similarities than we do differences. Anyways, warfare is not unique only to Africans. Europeans have been fighting amongst themselves for millenia as well and they still share many, many cultural similarities to this day.
I hear what you say kgosi, but we have decades of proof that migrations of different cultures into territory claimed by that tribe have cost millions of lives, more than poverty has. If it did not work in the past how will it work in the future? How will we change this mindset overnight? Look at zimbabwe. Sad but true. It has fallen apart. Zambia however seems to be flourishing agriculturaly. I lived in zululand under king Buthelezi, and what all of us experienced way back in the 80's were blizz. Each culture free to be who they are. A kwazulu natal university flourished in the education of their people. We must never lose respect for one anothers cultures. Our animal kingdom who survives severe earth elements have proven, that RESPECT FOR OTHER ANIMAL SPECIES, is the main aspect of survival. They share alike and take only what is needed.

Historically the land belonged to Basotho and they were driven out like everyone that's talking about land reform today. If South Africans think it's okay to reclaim the land that was taken by force it should also consider that some parts of SA belong to Basotho. Remember before the borders the regions belonged to their indigenous ethic groups.

Historically yes there was an agreement to return parts of the Free state back to Lesotho after 60 years, now 60 yrs has come and gone, nothing happened. But this is what Europeans do wherever they conquer lands, they never give it back. Black south africans still haven't got their land back even as we speak, now i suspect it might even be harder for Lesotho given the geographical location and the incomparable military power. But I'm a pan-African, all of Africa will be restored to its pre-colonial borders, otherwise the mother continent will not prosper and small minds like yours will no longer be around by then to content with.

As a Mosotho living in Lesotho, I have no bad blood for SA and don't get me wrong, I love my country, but this has got to be the weirdest or stupidest idea I have ever had recently. I mean there are things that need to be dealt with urgently e.g unemployment,poor economy, corruption Laws & etc,,and bona they are focused on getting Free State,I'm having a tough time understanding as to how that is going to help better ourselves, yet they failed with the land we already have.
Honestly, I think we as South Africans have forgotten that our history is not only one of apartheid or colonialism. If we really had to visit history, we would not even exist as a country or as South Africans but would belong to either Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, eSwatini, Mozambique or Zimbabwe. RSA as a country is a product of colonialism and an architecture of the Boers.

I wanted to see a map of areas they're claiming. Incorporating Lesotho into South Africa would greatly benefit Lesotho residents. Right now many of them work in the lowest paying jobs like herdsmen and domestic workers and earn less than minimum wage.

I mean, to be honest, it already is. We have millions of migrants in South Africa because of literally no border control. I wouldn't say it has been a positive thing thus far. In order for that to work all countries have to be developed at the same pace so that one state does not bear the burder for everyone. I mean, people migrate from Malawi to go and work in Cape Town. That earned money gets sent back home to Malawi - it doesn't add back to our economy. So, it's bullsh*t. Borders need to be firmly in place and monitored.

@@zukracode2181 Because you need to be smart if you're going to enter any kind of negotiations, aways inflate the price and ask for a ridiculous amount and leave a room for the other person to negotiate down the price until the price settles to what you have secretly intended in the first place.
If South Africa fails to return the land, they will have to provide alternative i.e compensation amounting to billions which they will never fulfil and eventually Lesotho will suggest South Africa integrates the whole country as an alternative to giving back the Free State.
Souh Africa breathes a sigh of relief and annexes Lesotho, South Africans in the Frees State are happy and Basotho in Lesotho are happy, seems like a win win.

This is very possible. As a South African from Free State Mosotho, I have been waiting for this development for a long time. @@themba4466 Huh🤔 that's peculiar, I visit my maternal family frequently throughout the year, and I usually sleep in their traditional home, or as Batswana and Basotho call it Mokhoro, I never had trouble with it when it rained tho; I guess we just have different experiences with it.
