in general, you can see both lower and upper sets of teeth on a croc with its jaw shut, alligator the lower set tuck into the jaw and only the upper set of teeth are visible, which doesn't help because the logo in question shows one with an open jaw. Also knowing the -clips category didn't help us outside of the USA as we tend to use either (I tend to use crocodile clips for the small ones in electronics and alligator clips for the larger ones on jumper cables)
I wasn't sure if it was an Alligator or a Crocodile on the logo, but I knew it to be Izod, not Lacoste. But I looked it up, and apparently Lacoste is owned by Izod, and they *both* use a crocodile in their logos. In the UK alligator clips are called crocodile clips so that did not help the coin toss
