- Starting UA-cam in 2024 must be so daunting...
Luckily I started about 10 years ago. But the thing is I'm still a bit rubbish at at it so I need to PRESS RESET.
I'm mostly using Insta360 Cameras by the way and this one was Filmed on an Insta360 GO 3 which you can now get in BLACK.

I think you have hit the nail on the head, I suspect I am a similar age to you and the content you going to cover is IMO likely to appeal to MTBers of our age. It takes a lot to talk to camera whilst out and about but many people who have big channels do it.
I watch UA-cam to live vicariously through others like yourself. I am an old Dad to two young kids and I look for escape, stuff I could do if I had the time.
Cheers. I'm 50 odd, married, 2 18 and 20 yr old kids, 2 dogs, could be much fitter and healthier, ride bikes a bit, make rubbish content, buys stuff I don't really need, and mostly talk crap - if that's you then strap in for a steady, safe and sort of boring ride....
Nothing like a public declaration 🎉 watch of the day could be good segment if u ride with a watch. I like your accent and not being too serious 🧐
Cheers dude. My other channel (have you seen it) is mostly made up of Watch Of The Day shorts.
You do you man. Make videos you want to make in the style you enjoy. if your happy with it then if people watch its a bonus
Yeah that’s 90% of it. But I want to make some UA-cam dollar so something has to resonate. It’s interesting how this does - maybe just maybe people will watch me…

I think one of the things you did hit on was incidental stuff in videos. One of my paragliding friends makes amazing films. 99% of paragliding videos are tedious in the extreme. His aren't. The reason he films and edits in lots of background stuff. Wildlife, the journey to and from site etc. I know its a lot of work.
The other thing I'd note is you got initial traction from your daily blog. I can remember talking to one of my cousins mentioning your blog to me and being surprised that we are mates. Frequency of content works but again is hard work.

Endless POV good or bad is dull, so my POV edits are usually really short and try to add some energetic or trending tunes.
If I do anything over 2 mins I feel that it needs other angles, “incidental” as you put it, or some mood or location setting clips. Such images of the trees, bushes, shots of bikes and people rather than just bars and a trail. These videos are better.
And you finally point is the main one - consistency is No1. It needs at least be a consistent look or feel or topic or type of video but importantly, for growth, frequency and consistent update schedule is right up there.
It is hard with other commitments but to make it work you have to find the time.
The most I can promise right now is I will be the constant and over the next week or 2 I’ll be picking a day/time and sticking to it.

Hey mate . I’m guessing you have to do what you like to watch. I am a mid 50’s MTBer and jumped on your channel after seeing the rift zone E1 ride ( I’ve since purchased one) . I liked how natural you are and don’t say you will do things you can’t .
But on my channel I realised two things.
People don’t watch me for my great riding and people can relate to old ,fat , slow and can’t jump. There’s so many older guys that can relate to the struggle of getting motivated to go ride . I’ve made many great mates from it here in Australia .
So I’m guessing people are watching you for two reasons. They want to see your new Marin and they relate/ like you . That’s why I watch you.
I’m 99% mountain biking but I recently flew from my rural town to Brisbane to go see Def Leppard and motley crue. I made a mini doco of all cool stuff from flying, amazing food and our night out. I made it for my family then thought I’d release it on my channel and folks loved it.
There’s no format to follow. I’d recommend filming stuff that you want to see and do it how you want to do it .

Thank you. I’m a big believer in being ok at something is just fine and don’t feel the pressure to ride better for my content, just want to make the content better if that makes sense. I’ve scheduled a sort of montage for later today of some of my fave edits from the last year or so. Hope you watch it.
I’ll check out your Def Leppard and Motley Crue video - I’ve an odd relationship with both those bands. I’m sure it was a great show but I’m amazed that I simply can’t listen to Hysteria or any songs off it anymore.
@@TimFromWalesI think you know what you want your content to look like and you care enough to come out and say you are changing it up . I really like that.
As for the def Leppard and Motley Crüe gig I wasn’t real keen to go . We have two special needs children and rarely get time to ourselves so we made the most of it.
Both bands were amazing and we had a great time .
I do other hobbies I’d like to incorporate into my channel too. I live in the tropics and do kayak , fishing ,4x4, metal detecting , gold panning ….. the list goes on! I’m thinking of a name change for the channel ( funny thing is I’ve had “Mick from Rocky” in my head for years ) as my mate doesn’t film or ride much now . I think taking the MTB out of the name broadens the possibilities and expectations of the content.

@@mickfromrocky I settled on TimFromWales a long time ago and its stuck nicely and feels like a sort of personal brand now. I even get called it when I play pool as I forgot I had it set as my WhatsApp username. So for me I have a name that can be just about whatever I want it to be.
I've recently changed the banner on my channel too, to remove the bike bias.
I'd rather go to Stockholm or Croatia than Dubai!!! I like your videos Tim, because they're for normal people. They're more relevant to me than the Matt Jones and Sam Pilgrim videos. 👍😎
I'd notice if your channel went away Tim. It's good to have all types of channels to subscribe to. The pro ones and the more home made type ones. You're interesting and I will always click to watch what you have to say. I reckon put everything in the same place and just be eclectic. I watched to the end and heard the waffle.. ha
