  • Hi everyone :)
    In this week’s #minimalist #hometour,
We’ll talk about whether or not #minimalism is for “poor people who needs excuses” or “rich people who needs hobbies”.
I’ve heard both sides & I have a lot to talk about on this topic, so enjoy!
    xo

I love your explanation on how minimalism is for the rich and poor. It’s how you hack it.

The talk really resonated today. Minimalism can definitely be beneficial to all. Lately, I have been reviewing my living situation. I have my basic needs, but the location is no longer serving me. I feel like a dog in the kennel analogy. It is nice knowing we have had our poor moments in life but those moments make the better moments so much better. I think it that comes from the experience and clarity of our low places in life.❤

Hi Erica♥️☺️ Of course, it can be beneficial to anyone who wants to try minimalism! Also so true our poor moments in life help us appreciate good moments. Besides, our dissatisfactions are just indicators to change for the better :) Low places in life are no longer too scary when we think this way. I’m also figuring these things out & it’s always lovely when others also share their stories and experiences - so thank you, always. Have the most wonderful rest of the week!🥰💐

I love your lifestyle and mentality. People are shocked when they see that I enjoy sleeping on a twin mattress on the floor even though I have the bed frame in the garage😂. Most people that conform to other peoples expectations are usually miserable and broke. Thank you❤❤❤

I think that the criticisms of minimalism are valid on internet because social media made popular the extreme minimalists the ones that only have ten things, the people that have only one chair, one table, one plate ect, normal people don´t live like this, normal people need to keep stuff they dont like but need, the problem isn´t the philosophy of minimalism itself but the promoters of it that are usually single, nomads or sharing a house so they dont have a lot of things because they use ´other people´stuff and thats why the movement as a trend as died combined with the minimalism aesthetic of everything gray or neutral, also some people label themselves as minimalists and then in the comment some people say ´you arent a minimalist you have too much stuff´ect.

Hm I always wonder why people are always fighting over dumbest little details. At the end of the day, who cares how many items someone owns & why does it matter whether someone practices minimalism or not? I think most people who are unnecessarily critical tend to be grasping for some false sense of superiority. I identify as a minimalist & personally benefit from being one - doesn’t mean I feel the need to criticize others for having more than me, less than me, and yes, even depending on community to help them out. All are valid ways of living as long as it’s not actively harming anyone. I get annoyed at this rampant cancer of false perfectionism, because I too have been negatively affected by that mindset as well. I truly hope by showing others how I try to live authentically will show them it’s okay to have a unique life that makes sense for themselves😊

I agree , I’m just stating the reasons why most people/non minimalists thnik the way they think, social media commodified everything clean yt/tiktok ,organization videos, book talk so gullible people think they need to adapt/embrace certain aesthetics to the tea, unfortunately most of this is target at women especially stay at home mom, I think because we are social creatures our looks to conform and get approval just look at the USA stanley cup crazy from young girls to full grown women a real disaster if you ask me.
      Have a good day

@@gallerybyjoy It is really hypocritical on the part of people to say that minimalism is only valid for the rich, when I see all the "crap" that people buy and are considered "poor"... With us the store "Action" is the good example, there are always many people and yet it is located in a fairly poor neighborhood where I live (in France). It’s just finding an excuse not to change his habits, minimalism is an ideal of life, someone poor can be maximalist just pick up things on the street, at the garbage dump, buy cheap new things, on Le Bon Coin also... today to own in quantity does not really mean to be rich. And owning nothing doesn’t mean poor either.

You make such good points and things to think about. Ive always been at or near the poverty line, as a child I was a hoarder so I still have collecting tendencies (which of course means i buy or find excess "cool" things to bring home, even if i just end up decluttering them later). I definitely feel weird when people visit because i have "nicer" things, and a lot of hobby supplies, and i like to decorate so there is some quantity of items as a poor person in this tiny apartment. Almost guilty, like i should get rid of more than i may want to get rid of. It doesnt matter though, and i should keep, discard, and bring home the things that bring me joy without thinking about judgement and comparison. I have been struggling with this lately, so this video was helpful for thinking points :) I can continue on minimalist journey, and let go of what other people think so i can work more on my mental health and spending habits!

This was so sweet for me to read, thank you for sharing your story! At the end of the day our homes are meant to be for us, not others. If collecting things and keeping your home a certain way help you feel better/build a better life for you, by all means own it & love it as it is :) I think it’s great idea to let go of others’ judgements in order to have the necessary peace to make better future for ourselves. Progress doesn’t always have to start from a place of shame and guilt, it can start from place of accepting who we are & building from there🤗
