The music sounds like the black church in America when we “get the holy ghost.” The music is sped up and repetitive. The dancing too lol. I love when I find videos that showcase these retentions/commonalities. Are they teasing him when they get close? What happens if you touch it? 😂
Hi My name is Diwas and I'm a young artist from Bristol, England. I am so fascinated and inspired by the kumpo festival that I really want to go see it and I wanted to see if I can get any information when and where the next kumpo festival is. Thank you :)
Diwas Dewan - Hi Diwas, thanks for your message. If you go to Kafountine or Abene in Southern Senegal you will find these happening nearly every week. They are quite special and everyone is very welcoming. I would recommend visiting during the dry season (September - May), and i would also recommend getting in touch with Kath at the Kora Workshop for a nice place to stay. They might also be able to introduce you to the local community so you can experience the Kumpo. Good luck on your travels and with your artistic work. All the best. Jordan
I would like to know the meaning of this event. Why the boys group on the side and what do they sing ?? Please, I have been watching this kind of videos and I’m very interested in knowing what the meaning. I have to say, it’s beautiful.
i think this is common in a certain dance? you’re not supposed to let them touch you and they’ll run after someone?? idk if they hurt you wish i had someone to ask
Many of us are not aware. Africans brought to America as slaves still passed the songs and dances to the next generations. Though the exact cultural meanings have been lost track of we still remember a piece of the home we never knew.
@@dblessed7860 yes being raised in different cultures does that to people, I am both amazed and say it does look a but scary if your not used to something like this
