Don't those Florescent displays just plain wear out with use? I mean to the point they cannot be fixed but need to be replaced? I look forward to more repair videos when you return Enjoy the time off.
I would think that the display would go dim with age whereas this one flickers and doesn't display properly. Only way to know for sure is to replace it. I might have mentioned that I would like to get a Nak 680 deck which looks like it uses the same display and use it to fault find this display. The circuitry for the 680 looks different but the FL display itself looks the same. After changing all the chips what else could it be? Of course more time and money would eventually solve everything. At least the transport mechanism, front panel and audio path are now working great . 🙂
I looked at all the parts, I still don’t understand, was the problem with 105 kHz solved by replacing the orange capacitors? I can only applaud you and thank you for this tutorial that you have created.
Yeah, a lot wrong with this deck. I still have a couple of vids for it to go. It's now out of my hands. I wish I could have finished it. I'm about to do some o/s travelling for a few months. If it were mine I would have persevered even if it took a few years. I offered to buy it but my offer was too low. For anyone interested It's now on ebay www.ebay.com.au/itm/203892556409?ViewItem=&item=203892556409 Seller is ruseshc-0

oh well you tried
If it were mine I would continue with it later in the year but it's not so I had to stop at some point. Next 6 months are too busy for me. 😞
