I see there thatJames was referring to those who had faith or 'belief' on the existence of a One God like the faith that demons had, (Jam.2:19) and not to the faith that the believers had which made them received the Holy Spirit when they believed the gospel after hearing it (Eph.1:13). Faith on the gospel which saved them while they were not yet doing any obedience to the LORD.(Rom.3:28)

Please explain if you dare: If we are saved by grace apart from WORKS so that no one can boast, why are there more than a *dozen verses* in both the new and old testament that clearly state we are solely judged by our WORKS apart from any faith we may have or not have shown? *Ps. 62:12; Prov. 24:12; Jer. **17:10**; **32:19**; Dan. 12:1-2. Matt. **16:27**; Rom. 2:6; **14:12** James 2:10:14 ; Rev. 2:23; 20:12 **22:12**). 1 Cor 3:8 1 Cor 4:5 2 Cor 5:10 1 Peter 1: 1 Cor 3:8*

One of the problem I feel we have as Christians is this: we tend to argue with each other for the wrong reason. The debate between faith without works -James, and faith alone -Paul, is one of those fruitless arguments.old covenant preaches faith and works combine (law)… as an example james uses two old covenant examples…Abraham and Rahab the Harlot…Paul uses as an example justification of faith apart from work to mitigate problems the Church of Rome was having between the newly converted gentle and the Jews- this argument was based on some Christian jews overly relying on the law to sustain their faiths in Christ-Paul addressed this group in Romans 1-8..In Romans 8 he begins to address New Christians who started to feel that they were better than their foundation- the Jewish community.. Paul also rebuked these Christians and warned them that it was God’s grace that saved them. Now people, when you read the scriptures, it’s vitally important to understand who the writer is speaking to and why the writer speaks… Paul and james are addressing two different groups with two different problems for two different results…Both points these man of God made are correct.. this is not an either-or argument--it’s an and-also spiritual discussion…

@jose zaphnatpanea absolutely! Some feel people that Paul is under the new dispensation.. I say Jesus dispensation is the only one that stands..But yes…Some members of the body will not and does not understand what a falsehood looks like…itching ears is the reason

Can a person have works without faith? Yes, as evidenced in Matthew 7:21-23. These “workers of iniquity” (as the Lord called them) performed “many wonderful WORKS” in Jesus' name, but they went about to establish their own righteousness, instead of submitting themselves to the righteousness of God, which is through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 10:3-4; 2nd Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3:9).
Can a person have faith without works? Yes, as evidenced in John 12:42-43. The Scriptures say that “many of the chief rulers BELIEVED” (had faith) on the Lord Jesus Christ, but they “DID NOT CONFESS HIM.” They were afraid of persecution from the Pharisees. They had faith without works! Also, we see the repentant thief on the cross, who had no time to shew forth any works.
And again we see in 1st Corinthians 3:15, at the Judgment Seat of Christ, that some men will barely “be saved; yet so as by fire.” 1st Corinthians 3:15, “If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” Clearly, this man was saved but HAD NO WORKS! So if works were necessary to validate faith for salvation, then this man could not have gone to Heaven. Yet, the Bible teaches that “HE HIMSELF SHALL BE SAVED,” despite having NO WORKS whatsoever!!! So many Christians today are living shallow lives, choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life (Luke 8:14), who never bear any fruit (no souls saved) unto the Lord. God's desire for every believer is to mature so that they “BRING FORTH FRUIT” (Luke 8:15). Fruitless believers won't shine in Heaven (Daniel 12:3). It is every believer's duty to share the Gospel with the lost. God is our co-laborer (1st Corinthians 3:8-9). The Holy Spirit speaks to people's hearts, as our words speak to their minds. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation to “THEM THAT BELIEVE” (Romans 1:16).
In return for our trust (faith) in His only begotten Son, God the Father offers us forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Works have no part in God's free grace. Anyone who says that faith is invalid without "works" is adding human effort to the Gospel. Thank God for the free gift of eternal life!

@@jesussaves4510 Jesus speaks on faith with works though? And so does his brother James? I mean is not the whole point to of faith thru grace how God gave mercy upon us humans, so if we seek him, he will open our eyes to the truth of His Son and His gift of salvation, of redemption? It does not seem to imply that we are to continue to live our Earthy lives in sin. So yes, the man on the cross saught salvation right before his death, it makes sense he did not produce good works. And the believers who were to scared to confess thier belief in Jesus, they still held faith and it seems since God is compassionate and full of mercy, he would forgive them for their fears. I am sure they being believers repented. The gift of salavation is also a gift of repentance. And repentance is work. Reading the Bible is work. Praying is work. Loving one another is work. It comes naturally and also takes effort - the Holy Spirit indwells in us but we also have our free will, we are not robots after becoming saved. And I really think the main premise here is that the works don't produce the faith; the faith produces the good works and the faith comes from God, not from works nor from any man or oneself. Because God wants us to build an actual relationship with Him, not just be religious or a do-gooder, so we live in this faith, in His prescence every day and don't fall back into being a slave to sin and the world.
