In which I introduce my loom project, and begin taking it apart to see what needs replacing and fixing. Project Cost so far: 100 CAD Days in our garage: 77
I have a very similar loom sitting in my family room right now. I THINK it’s in working order. My New Years Day plans are to watch UA-cam videos and attempt warping the loom! Would love to hear if you’ve made any progress and any resources you found helpful.
Get a free Hammett counterbalance loom manual model 401. It will help you lots! Mine is similar...i am doing a similar restoration! My loom has more pieces than yours but i have one more part to make. Good luck!
Hey Sara. Did you ever make any progress on this loom? I have two old looms in need of refurbishment and I was interested in what you did with the reed in particular. Thanks.
Hi. Word of caution, its a counterbalance loom so harnesses/heddles, lamms and treadles have to be set up exactly in relation to the reed. When I restored mine, I took photographs of all functional parts and also took measurements, ie lengths and heights between each moving part listed above. Will be following you with excitement...
I wish I had known this before taking it apart, my weaving experience in the past has been with rigid heddle looms so this is a whole different ball game, but thanks for the info, already youtubing videos on counterbalance looms!
Thanks for this post! Im trying to get a vintage loom functional with a friend of mine and “counterbalance loom” is term ice not heard before. But explains how her loom is different
Watch "Cutting the Rug" UA-cam channel to get an idea of what to do with this type of loom. I just bought an old rug loom, too. Trying to clean it up and figure it out. Good luck to you! I am excited to have found your video!
I am so excited so see this beauties transformation. Great find! I passed one up at a yard sale last summer and still kick myself.
Soo excited for you!! Looking forward to your journey restoring her 😊😊😊
Wonderful, agree with Mary S can't wait to see the transformation. What a deal!
Good luck with your restoration can't wait to see a video of you using it once you have restored it x

I got my manual on a Facebook weaving group recommendation. They put me in touch with a woman who has them!😉
