I'd like to see a brand comarison for ice braid for strength vs ice buildup. Suffix says it has water-repellant protection to reduce freezing, PowerPro says it has a PTFE coating to prevent line freeze, unsure of others.
You can use regular line but you're likely to encounter more memory (coiling issues). The ice lines use materials and chemicals that improved cold water and weather performance such as water-wicking properties with braided lines and better handling characteristics overall with braid, monofilament and fluorocarbon line types.

for ice-fishing, do you need to use 'ice' line or can it just be the regular line?

@@Wired2Fish ok, thanks. i am only able to find 10 lb mono that is ice type, but i would like to find a higher test, can't find.
Many "experts" say ice mono has less memory, others say ice fluoro has less memory lol
Any tips to stop ice forming on the line/guides?
use line conditioning spray! I fish open water in winter and that helps me
Fish about 350miles south. Works every time!
bad advice.
