i don't know. i just prefer innocence over sexy, so i love akb48. this style is natural and causes no pressure. and is also something rare in today's world

I realize it's japanese language, but the appeal of AKB48 is worldwide! The band itself is responsible for revitalizing the japanese music industry, with over 20 consecutive releases having close to 1,000,000 pre-orders, so music chains such as Tower Records stay in business. While here in Chicago, U.S., Tower is no more!!! There are so many pre-orders for AKB48 CDs because there is always a little bit extra included: a DVD, photos, calendars, etc., but most importantly tickets to meet & greet, & once a year; an opportunity to vote for your favorite member, so that in the future she will be featured more in music videos, magazines, TV & movies. How freakin' cool is that?
The one who said they don't have talent and all about looks don't know AKB. At first glance they may look like so, but they are hardworking bunch and some of them really strive with their talents, be it in music, dancing, acting, and so on. Some reveal their character and show that even "ordinary" person can get through with efforts. Some lyrics may suggestive, some themes so, but it IS true that almost half have amazing lyrics and even melodies for idol songs. They cannot be generalized.
There are very talented members, though, vocally; Iwasa Misaki, Masuda Yuka, Takahashi Minami, Akimoto Sayaka, Takeuchi Miyu, Natori Wakana, etc. are all very talented vocalists.

The theater is still predominantly male but that's because it's hard to get in and it's very idol fan focused, but AKB is popular mainstream with girls as well, according to my female friends in Japan. For example, while wota/idol fans tend to buy physical copies (for external bonuses and oricon rankings) AKB completely dominates cell phone and digital sales, which are more frequented by casual listeners.
each country has its own customs and traditions,so i think it's not proper for jkt48 to wear some flashy clothes like bikini and take a photo with some gravure pose like akb48 did.hope Akimoto Yasushi realized it
I disagree; AKB can't last forever, but its popularity has already outlasted MM. While the senbatsu members are popular, Akimoto has especially lately been pushing other girls up front, including girls in the sister groups. In fact, I think the fact that SKE48 and NMB48 are so very successful on their own is a good omen for the whole group.
as of 2014 09 25, THEY HAVE! I agree they should have the opportunity to cultivate their own uniqueness, as should SNH48. JKT48 are very charming even though I don't understand the language, although I know some japanese, and can read korean, it's very different. Indonesia is so beautiful with its diversity, and economy is growing. Maybe 1 day I will visit & see a JKT48 concert, and discuss in polish, ukrainian, slovak, czech, spanish, or a little bit in russian or german, but probably not in chinese or thai.

Another fantastically positive energy band from Japan you may like is SCANDAL (4 very talented young women, who play, compose, & are now producing their own music, and have been a band for over 8 years now!!!). They too have quite a following in Indonesia, as well as Malaysia, Singapore, France, & even Chicago USA; all locations where SCANDAL have performed. So maybe it's time for me to move. P.S. But that little lemon goofball cutie always lifts my mood, as does Kaori Matsumura 'forever 17' from SKE48. My next gen fave is HKT48 Sakura Miyawaki. There's several hundred of them so that none of them are irreplaceable. Makes it harder to come forward if you know you can always be replaced.
