"I don't mind stealin bread From the mouths of decadence But I can't feed on the powerless When my cup's already overfilled" I have always taken this song to mean that the singer would go hungry before taking from someone who has less than himself.

He has been blessed and his cup is now overfilled. I feel like he is promising himself not to become part of the problem or ever forget where he came from.
The song is about Ticketmaster, how they gouge the customers. This was a tribute album by Soundgarden and Pearl Jam to Andrew Wood, lead singer of Mother Love Bone. Stargazer or Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns to hear Andrew Wood
I just commented yesterday for this song because I thought you had reacted to it already. Chris Cornell was the singer you reacted to singing “Nothing Compares To You”. Eddie Vedder lead singer of Pearl Jam. He’s the one in the bushes with the Rrrrrrrrrrrrs “No one puts Eddie in the bushes!” Lol You’ll understand that from Dirty Dancing movie. You recently reacted to “Jeramy” and I think you did “Even Flow” and MTV unplugged “Black” as well. I love me some Eddie😍 RIP Chris Cornell. My interpretation has always been about them not wanting to take all of the fame, glory and money bestowed upon them when others are doing without. They would rather go hungry than to feed on the powerless. This was in the time of grunge rock and these bands liked to keep it real…they didn’t care about a public image, flashy clothes and they didn’t care about winning awards or receiving all of the accolades. They just wanted to put out good music. There was usually a message in their lyrics.
The story behind this is the singer with the high voice, Chris Cornell, was roommates and close friends with Andy Woods, who was the singer of a band called Mother Love Bone. Andy died of a drug overdose. Chris Cornell joined forces with some the remaining guys of Mother Love Bone to form Temple of the Dog for one album in tribute to Andy. The guys of Mother Love Bone, replaced Andy on vocals with Eddie Vedder (the guy with the lower voice and growl here) and they became Pearl Jam. The Temple of the Dog album came out before Pearl Jam released it's first album, so they weren't really famous yet, but Temple of the Dog includes guys that would all go on to be absolutely HUGE: Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Audio Slave, etc.. Unsurprisingly, the Temple of the Dog album is a true masterpiece.
True Chris and Andy were roommates at one point but more importantly they were best friends. Secondly, Soundgarden/Chris Cornell already had their record deal, had released their 1st album AND had a hit on the radio when Andy tragically OD'd and died. (Andy and Mother Love Bone also had their record deal in place and were up-and-coming)..... Thirdly, the T.O.T.D. album consists of..... 1)Chris Cornell: lead singer of SOUNDGARDEN- and close friend of Andrew Wood 2) Matt Cameron: drummer of SOUNDGARDEN- and friend of Andrew Wood 3) Stone Gossard: lead guitar of MOTHER LOVE BONE and close friend of Andrew Wood 4) Jeff Ament: Bass guitar of MOTHER LOVE BONE and close friend of Andrew Wood 5) Mike KcCready: rythm guitar of THE SCREAMING TREES and friend of Andrew Wood ***** MEMBERS OF PEARL JAM.... (compare with the T.O.T.D. members above) are.... 1)Matt Cameron: drummer 2) Stone Gossard: lead guitar 3) Jeff Ament: Bass guitar 4) Mike Mcready: Rythm guitar 5) Eddie Vedder: Lead singer **So this one-time tribute album (to Andrew Wood) was inspired and written by Chris Cornell for Andy and he gathered some of their close friends (only 2 of whom were Andy's former band mates in Mother Love Bone) to record it. All members (with the exception of Chris) did go on to become Pearl Jam.... this album was released in April '91 and Pearl Jam's 1st album "TEN" was released just 4 months later in August '91..... SIDE NOTE: Eddie Vedder is only on this one song and it is ONLY because he was in the studio waiting for his audition with Stone and Jeff for their new lead singer position (due to Andrew's death)..... To quote the Chris Cornell: "I was struggling to get my vocals to sound the way I was hearing them in my head. Then this guy Eddie, quietly but with some balls, walked up to the mic and started singing. I liked it. We did a few run throughs and the rest is history"..... Just wanted to share... Peace.... :)
YESSSSSS....👍👍👍 I was just going to make the suggestion. I had tried in the past, but maybe now is as good a time as any.... Chris Cornell birthday tomorrow, 20th July 1964...RIP😓
The labels are cutting off their own nose to spite their faces. You remind people of good music again!! They should be happy, so many awesome songs from my time was lost and now they are re-revealed to be enjoyed by a new generation. You're also crossing genres and exposing those to good stuff who wouldn't normally listen. Please don't let them stop you, people like me need this! You're making my heart smile 😀
Stone, Jeff, Mike from Pearl Jam + Chris Cornell, Matt from Soundgarden = Temple of the Dog. 2nd singer was Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam (before PJ actually existed). This was the only track Vedder had any lead vocals. That's why they probably seem familiar.
Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell. This was a magical time in the 90s. And the throaty gravely voice you said you like. That is a 90s grunge/alternative thing. Keep listening to 90s grunge and you will here it a lot. Oh watch the movie Ted. They make a joke about how all 90s singers sound the same.
The drummer and singer are from Soundgarden (the singer later was in Audioslave) and the rest of the band including the other singer were at that time forming Pearl Jam. This band was a side project they did in honor of Andrew Wood, the singer for MotherLoveBone, who was friends with all of them and was in that band with two of the guys that play here and formed Pearl Jam because he sadly died of a drug overdose and the band had to break up. The singer for Pearl Jam was just joining the band and getting to know these guys and he was invited to duet on this song, which was his first major recording because it came out before Pearl Jam's first record. These days the same drummer actually plays in Pearl Jam, so Temple of the Dog is basically current Pearl Jam plus Chris Cornell, Soundgarden's singer doing lead vocals, with Ed Vedder doing backup vocals in some songs.
I think the lyric is “I can’t feed on the powerless when my cup’s already overfilled.” Meaning I can’t do things to push the less fortunate down when I’m as fortunate as I am. I think haha
That possessed thing you were talking about I think is really about the fact that music was there life, they eat slept and breathed music. When your in a band with other musicians and your making real music that means life or death it's gonna pour from your soul. Without getting too heavy on ya , that's what I take from it anyways. The only way in those days to get your music heard was to go out and play it, touring by the seat of your pants hoping to make enough money to get to the next gig.
Eddie Vedder (pearl jam and solo) and Chris Cornell ( soundgarden, audioslave temple of the dog and solo) RIP Chris. 2 of the best rock/grunge voices ever. Temple of the dog was a tribute album for the singer of Mother love bone, Andrew Wood who die of a drug OD. Other guitarist were Mike McCready, stone Gossard and on bass was Jeff Ament. And drums was Matt Cameron.
Andrew wood was the lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone, and roommates with Chris Cornell. Andrew Wood committed suicide and Chris Cornell joined the members Chris Cornell of Mother Love Bone and added a young singer named Eddie Vedder to create Temple of the Dog and then after the album Eddie Vedder and the members of Mother Love Bone went on to form Pearl Jam.. You should really react to Say Hello to Heaven, that's the song, Temple the Dog did to honor Andrew Wood

Chris Cornell is the one artist that has had such a profound impact on my life . His beautiful powerhouse balled that is his voice was a comfort to me always but especially in my darkest days . Chris made me feel like it was ok not to feel ok ..He was there with me every step of the way since the 90's and he still is because I cannot go a day without listening to him. I saw him in concert in 2005 just 2 months after my little brother died and I wanted to just die. but hearing Chris Screaming " Be YOURSELF BOSTON !" will be in my fucking soul for all eternity
"But I can't feed on the powerless when my cup's already overfilled" I always took that as I can't continue to take from people who don't have anything or access to get anything when I already have more than enough.
The lead singers from Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, one of the greatest supergroups ever. 1 album, a tribute to their friend, the lead singer of Mother Love Bone, who OD'd I believe. Say Hello to Heaven is the hottest track on the album, but this got the most airplay.
This was the single album supergroup for Grunge. Before it broke out, the lead singer of a band called Mother Love Bone had died. The members of Soundgarden would hang out with some of the remaining members of Mother Love Bone and their new singer (to become Pearl Jam). So they decided to do a tribute album together. The whole thing is fire.
Man, Chris and Eddie were gorgeous in their prime with their beautiful hair. Great reaction! This song touches my soul. Eddie’s and Chris’ are sure something special as a duo. 👍🏼👋🏼👏🏼🙌🏼💜🇨🇦

RIP Chris Cornell! This song is so amazing.
*I'm Goin Hungreeeeeeeeeee*
I just commented yesterday for this song because I thought you had reacted to it already. Chris Cornell was the singer you reacted to singing “Nothing Compares To You”. Eddie Vedder lead singer of Pearl Jam. He’s the one in the bushes with the Rrrrrrrrrrrrs “No one puts Eddie in the bushes!” Lol You’ll understand that from Dirty Dancing movie.
You recently reacted to “Jeramy” and I think you did “Even Flow” and MTV unplugged “Black” as well. I love me some Eddie😍
RIP Chris Cornell.
1)Chris Cornell: lead singer of SOUNDGARDEN- and close friend of Andrew Wood
2) Matt Cameron: drummer of SOUNDGARDEN- and friend of Andrew Wood
3) Stone Gossard: lead guitar of MOTHER LOVE BONE and close friend of Andrew Wood
4) Jeff Ament: Bass guitar of MOTHER LOVE BONE and close friend of Andrew Wood
5) Mike KcCready: rythm guitar of THE SCREAMING TREES and friend of Andrew Wood
***** MEMBERS OF PEARL JAM.... (compare with the T.O.T.D. members above) are....
1)Matt Cameron: drummer
2) Stone Gossard: lead guitar
3) Jeff Ament: Bass guitar
4) Mike Mcready: Rythm guitar
5) Eddie Vedder: Lead singer
**So this one-time tribute album (to Andrew Wood) was inspired and written by Chris Cornell for Andy and he gathered some of their close friends (only 2 of whom were Andy's former band mates in Mother Love Bone) to record it.
Peace.... :)
Ok Leo! Hitting my jams today!
no doubt
RIP Chris Cornell. Thank you (and Eddie) for both of your amazing contributions! Love you!!
Yo Mr Video could you react to "SEASONS" by Chris Cornell?
I believe there are some reuploads you could react to.
YESSSSSS....👍👍👍 I was just going to make the suggestion. I had tried in the past, but maybe now is as good a time as any.... Chris Cornell birthday tomorrow, 20th July 1964...RIP😓
SEASONS is an excellent choice!
😅😅😅Leo doing the Eddie Vedder voice and attempting Cornell
Ma dude that’s literally Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam
A truly phenomenal talent he was.
I hope he is at peace now, out there in the great beyond. 💙
Did you say " Rabbit hole? "Try Eddy Vetter ukulele songs, the videos are amazing and the music is so haunting and beautiful!
Eddie Veddar (Pearl Jam, the second singer) is the guy who literally invented what's called the Yarl, that "rrrrr" you refer to
Grunge. What an era for music.
That song's a whole message
RIP Chris Cornell. An amazing performer ❤️
Another favorite songs of all time
Mother Love Bone, the band that started the whole Seattle grunge scene. Chloe Daner.
Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell….man what a duo! Love this song Leo!
Love both of these dudes... Cornell and Vedder are both beasts and mastered their craft for sure!
Thanks for reacting to this man!
Keep going with the grunge!
Need a new sound , check out Fun Lovin Criminals - Scooby Snacks
Say Hello to Heaven is another popular and awesome song! Times of Trouble is good too. Both by Temple of the Dog 😀
"Say Hello to Heaven" would go well with your recent Chris Cornell choices Excellent choices btw.
Love me some 90s bangers 😎
Chris Cornell had a great voice. RIP
Check out their song, Say hello to heaven. Great song
RIP Chris Cornell ... Eddie Vedder you're a god!
The song that launched one of the best scenes in history
Andrew wood was the lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone, and roommates with Chris Cornell. Andrew Wood committed suicide and Chris Cornell joined the members Chris Cornell of Mother Love Bone and added a young singer named Eddie Vedder to create Temple of the Dog and then after the album Eddie Vedder and the members of Mother Love Bone went on to form Pearl Jam.. You should really react to Say Hello to Heaven, that's the song, Temple the Dog did to honor Andrew Wood
Even after all these years , I still get the chills I got hearing this for the first time back then .
Eddie V. & Chris C. awesome singers & great bands. Chris with long beautiful hair a lot of the rockers had beautiful hair some better than women. Rip Chris & live long Eddie.✌❤
Great song, 90s vibes for days
Great reaction! These are 2 of the best singers of the 90s! Would love to see you react to more Def Leppard! You should check out Rock of ages, Animal, Too Late for love or Foolin..... You can't go wrong.
"But I can't feed on the powerless when my cup's already overfilled"
I always took that as I can't continue to take from people who don't have anything or access to get anything when I already have more than enough.
Sadly, I don’t have that voice either. Another great reaction to a great song!
Man, that was such a cool ass song, my god.🙏🙏🙏🎶🎶🎶🎶 thanks mr. V. 👍😍
Say Hello to Heaven was pretty popular. I liked Call me a Dog or Wooden Jesus...Reach Down and the rest of the album.😁
💯🎶❣️
LEO! 🙄😂👉 *Lynyrd Skynyrd - “That Smell”*
- *Rick Derringer - “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo”*
- *The Who - “Love Reign O’er Me” LYRIC VERSION* 🤷🏻♂️😂
Let’s do some more Jellyroll or Tech Nine or Struggle Jennings... they never copyright strike and they WANT you to react to their music ❤️❤️
Man, Chris and Eddie were gorgeous in their prime with their beautiful hair. Great reaction! This song touches my soul. Eddie’s and Chris’ are sure something special as a duo. 👍🏼👋🏼👏🏼🙌🏼💜🇨🇦
Temple of the Dog was a 1-off project written by Chris Cornell in 1991 as a mourning tribute to his friend Andrew Wood, the lead singer of Mother Love Bone who died of an OD in 1990... Wood's former bandmates helped record it... and subsequently formed Pearl Jam that year...
"I can't feed on the powerless when my cup's already overfilled"... Chills...Cornell (RIP) and Vedder singing together. .. PRICELESS. Thanks Leo for doing this one. Love you.
Say Hello 2 Heaven!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Great song from temple of the dog bro eddie vedder lead singer of pearl jam and chris cornell r.i.p lead singer of soundgarden and audioslave were a great duo. Say hello to heaven is another great one by them🎶🔥🎶 hunger strike
Two of my favorite singers. I was a freshman in college when Hunger Strike came out. So glad I saw Chris Cornell in his lifetime❤️❤️❤️
I know rightWhere do they get thoes amazing voices. Blessed is anyone who can sing.Love bass in a voice but a good high note scream is sweet also.✌RIP Chris Cornell.
This was a huge hit, and Say Hello To Heaven & Reach Down received a lot of airplay too, but many people don't realize how many really good songs were on that album. Used to play it front to back constantly. Four Walled World & Wooden Jesus were 2 of my favorites.
This is the best! Good stuff! Hunger Strike
Rest in sweet peace Chris.
Two days ago you reacted to Chris Cornell performing Prince " Nothing Compares 2 U". Eddie Vedder does an amazing job of holding a note/tone for a long period of time allowing Chris to Shine. Eddie is very shy and always seems to be having an out of body experience when he sings.
Nothing better than a joint and Mr video in the morning with a cup of coffee.
Great reaction
They only put out one album. It was easily the best album of the 90s and one of the best all time. Do yourself a favor and check it out. If Say Hello 2 Heaven doesn’t move you’ll some way, you’re not human. Reach Down, Wooden Jesus and Call Me A Dog are amazing too.
Love it when Mr. Video gets high asf before his reactions 😆🤣😂
💯💚💨🎶
Yes brother Leo,
This is a conglomeration of some amazing Musicians. It hurts my heart to listen to Chris these days, but their catalogue is extensive and you'll never go wrong listening to anything, any of them have recorded.
🤗🙌🥃
In Seattle, when bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden started getting recognized, many of the musicians had been playing live with one another.
One of my favorite songs! Love Eddie and still love Chris. His voice is that of a legend, Chris gone too soon. Passed away on my birthday. RIP Chris. And Eddie keep going like you always dom amazing artist!
