As a gay male who's gone though the feelings this song is about, I'd like to explain. While this may not be about gay things, _it sounds a fuckin lot like it is._ There's a boy who's either straight or is insisting he's "waiting for the one" while the other boy loves him. We'll call the stubborn boy Tom, and the other will be Todd I guess I dunno. They're the kind of people who are friends but only because their friends are friends, and they hang out with their friends so they're forced to hang out with each other, but they act like they hate each other. Todd is more teasing than mean, not exactly hiding his feelings but playing them out in a way that doesn't make it blatant, essentially leaving Tom wondering if he likes him or if Todd's just messing with him. This makes the other get defensive, often lashing out, to play off the fact that he's realizing he is infact gay for Todd but will deny it because he doesn't want to be bullied or laughed at by the other boy since there is the possibility Todd doesn't like him. The song is from the point of view of Todd, who is convinced Tom hates him fully but just keeps teasing him. He knows he'd probably drive Tom away by messing with him, or, like the song says, get hurt, because he keeps getting kissy or hugging Tom and he knows he's eventually gonna get pushed away or slapped or something. The cycle goes on of this confused relationship.
