Love your self-reflection at such a young age. I think self-reflection is a life-long journey. As a 60 something, I started a capsule-wardrobe journey in my mid-50’s after the passing of a very dear friend. I just needed a change and I’m still learning.
Oh my, I'm sorry to hear that Suzanne but I'm glad you found it to help you through a difficult time. And I could not agree more, self-reflection should be an ongoing process. Thanks for your support! ❤️
I've been searching for guidance on how to change my wardrobe to a well thought out capsule wardrobe and I'm so thankful I found your channel today! What a beautiful personality and presence you have...I just wanted to complement you on that. It's a rare trait in this current world we live in. Thank you so much! Awe Lorraine, thank you for such a sweet comment! It really warms my heart to read this and know that you're resonating with what I'm sharing. Wishing you the best of luck with your capsule wardrobe! ❤️
I can't tell you how much this parallels my own timeline and feelings when giving some grace to my past self. And I also started with Anna's videos for my capsule wardrobe journey. This is one of my favorite videos of yours to date, thank you!
Loved this video! I've been slowly trying to switch to a capsule wardrobe! The hardest part for me is holding off on purchasing. But it's been so rewarding to wait to buy the perfect piece.
Don’t feel bad about buying too much junk and credit card debt in the past. I am your Grandma’s generation, or almost, so don’t have youth to excuse me, and I went way overboard on buying fast fashion online, to combat the boredom and isolation of the pandemic. Following all the stringent local hygiene rules, I didn’t even see my family in person during the first year. Getting new clothes/accessories seemed like the only thing to look forward to, it’s sad. I always loved getting new things, but this was a compulsive thing I just couldn’t seem to control, because it was addressing, very poorly, an emotional, not a wardrobe, hole. It has gone away, on its own, now, but I’m trying to learn from it, and stay on-guard against repetition of these feelings. Especially now that the Omicron variant has arrived in the San Francisco area, where I live. I’m going on walks and treating myself to hot showers with my perfumed body wash after my walks, and the matching cologne, instead, and buying only from a “needed” list of things I neglected, like socks.
I recently finished uploading my wardrobe on Cladwell and am going on a similar journey. I can completely relate to spending money on fast fashion pieces and still disliking your wardrobe. I'm not a minimalist by any means but I've curated my wardrobe to pieces that I actually feel good in. My goal from here on out is to be low-buy, maintain my current wardrobe and only replace pieces as they get worn out.
Those are great goals! I hope you're like Cladwell so far. It's such a useful app. And while I would describe my style as a minimalist aesthetic, I don't think I actually qualify as a minimalist myself either so I can relate to you on that one.
Personal style and appearance is much underrated, but it can make such a difference in confidence, outlook and success. Some people say external appearance is a trivial concern, but it isn’t, studies have proven this long ago. People who look more appropriate and attractive simply do better in all aspects of life, from finding a mate, to getting the best jobs. A person will always raise her self-esteem by looking her best, but it should be fun, too, and not too serious. My advice, as a 61-year old to young women, is to keep their weight down by eating healthy and regular exercise, not dieting, which causes long-term weight gain. Check your weight every week or two, and if more than 2 lbs. heavier than your goal weight, do some extra aerobic workouts until back to normal. Extras like desserts and alcohol can be cut for a while, but don’t go hungry. We all have to fight this obesity epidemic, it’s tough.
Hi Lorraine, thank you! I will definitely share my experiences in some upcoming vlogs. I'm doing lots of filming at the moment but I need to catch up on some editing haha.
I think a great first step toward sustainable fashion, and an important one, is to buy only non-plastic fiber clothing. Synthetics like polyester and acrylic are made from petrochemicals, mostly can’t be recycled, they don’t biodegrade, plus they’re very uncomfortable to wear. Even blends with a small percentage of synthetic fibers are a problem. The rayon/viscose family of fabrics are man-made, but are not synthetic plastics, they’re made from breathable plant fibers, but some are environmentally better than others. Rayon, lyocell (especially) and the new sustainable viscose ones are best. For those on a very tight budget, fast-fashion brands do offer some natural-fiber and sustainable fiber clothes. I only search sites for the fabrics I want, and ignore the rest.
This is a great point Kimberly. Materials are so important and something I will admit I didn't think of much until more recently on my sustainable fashion journey. Lyocell is a personal favorite of mine as well as hemp and hemp blends. And the fast fashion pieces I have that are mostly natural materials have held up very well over the years.
Thank you so much for sharing about your personal journey with capsule wardrobes, I really resinate! I've been struggling through a career shift and found capsule wardrobes a couple months ago. Reorienting towards finding my personal style and creating a capsule wardrobe gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and has brought excitement back into my life at a time when I really need it! Something I struggle with every winter is how to keep my ankles warm, and feel chic. I'm tall (5'10") and 90% of my pants aren't long enough to cover my ankles, my warm winter socks are all pretty bulky and I really don't like it when they show between my pants and my shoes. The solution I've thought of is to find a good pair of boots that are mid-ankle height that will cover my socks to go along with the ankle length pants that I absolutely love to wear. I'm still on the hunt for a that perfect pair of boots, and don't know what to do in the meantime. Any tips?
Hi Kaye, I'm so happy to hear that the video resonates with you! ❤️ Oh gosh, cold ankles are the worst haha. I'm not nearly as tall and have a similar issue in the winter. My solution is a pair of Chelsea boots that I wear all winter long and which hide my bulky socks. In the meantime, maybe you could go for a socks + flats look, like a chunky sock with loafers or or brogues. Could be a cute look. Wishing you all the luck on your career shifts and your boot search!
@@JessicaHarumi Thank you for these tips! I'll try them out and see how they feel. I do have a pair of Chelsea boots on my Christmas wish list, so fingers crossed they'll join my wardrobe soon!
But you’re beautiful, why would you want to change anything? Well, I suppose even the most attractive people feel that way, that’s our culture talking; we just never feel good enough, because the standards set are simply not achievable.
