This video doesn't have NEARLY enough views. Every organ player should watch this at least .01% of the number times as it's by viewed altogether (right now a ridiculously low 40,386). So, 404 lessons for each of us... Get started! And those 15 folks who hit the thumbs-down icon obviously have severe hand/eye coordination issues.
Thanks a lot for your kind feedback. For the thumbs-down-clicks I don't mind; and maybe people swiping on touch-inputs might accidentally hit a button, it happened to me a couple of times already ;)
I really love this song, playing it so often at jam sessions and still is so much fun to play. By the way I read this song was written by Alfred James Ellis, not sure if that's right.
@@wireguy123 I set up everything on my own. Maybe someday I will create a video describing everything I know about Drawbar sounds ... Meanwhile Im sure you will find out in UA-cam and by playing around :)
badass lick at 3:14! You only use the button for rotor speed, I like that Nord lets you set up a rotor speed pedal for "temporary," making it more of an automatic foot motion.
Geiler Klang und gut gespielt. Interne SIM?
Well it's a mix of many techniques combining voicings, scales, patterns, arpeggios, playing outside, using rhythmic variations etc. First I learned blues pentatonics, then had drums lessons for 5 years, then studied a Jazz book by Frank Sikora ("Neue Jazz Harmonielehre") and trying out a lot. Going to Jazz Jam Sessions every week playing standards pushed this further. I guess this style is individual and it took me a lot of years to play like this. If you want we could discuss that further on Facebook or WhatsApp or ... Let me know if youre interested in lessons :)
What exactly do you mean with chopstix sounds? I know a lot of things about harmonics theory and scale techniques (though I still have to learn a lot!). Of course thats also important. This and a good rhythm feeling and being able to control the instrument is also essential for playing things like that. I'm always open to share my knowledge if you have any questions!
I have never played a Kurzweil, unfortunately. But I have a Roland FA-08: Bad internal leslie simulation, but sounds good with Neo Ventilator. Nord has a very good internal leslie simulation. Of course for live playing, I would never use my Roland for organ sounds - it has no drawbars.
Keep in mind that the parameters loaded in my program are different from the knob positions (unfortunately the knobs don't move if you load a program ;) ). Applies to effects and equalizer maybe ... but drawbars should be correct.
Make sure you have the leslie rotary setting on the right side on and the percussion on the left side too. It should sound the same unless your amp or PA is crappy.

@@andy5178 The fact that Hammond Organs have 61 note manuals doesn't matter. If you watch the video at 1:43 he's splitting the keyboard and using a Rhodes sound on the lower half so he needs the extra notes to complete the run.
Finally, a REAL demo of the great Hammond emulation of this instrument, showing all of the possibilities.

Perfect demo. No useless chat or banter, just great sounds and brilliant playing!
Thanks alot for your feedback :)
I love this. A man who knows his instrument as well his chops!
Had one of these for 4 month and been using presets...drawbar tips and top-down view are insanely helpful thanks
Hey - awesome demo. The playing is entertaining enough, but the text overlays are VERY helpful.
Hahhahahaha!! :D
I can't get enough of this video. That sound fascinates me
Ok I thought I was sold on the last video I saw but this right here!!!🤔 icing on the cake!!!one of the purest showcase of this board!!!
Outstanding!
That was great! Bravo!!
Love the sound!
Beautiful, great theme of Jaco Pastorius

Pro Band player. Fantastic !!
Sweet...Ive owed this board for a year but am using presets as Im not a "drawbar" guy...I need to start using some of these drawbar settings..Thanks
Thank you James, yes just play around with the drawbars as they give you more sound possibilities than lots of other key-instruments :)
What basic organ patch did you start with
?

Damn good.
Very good sound
Bloody brilliant!
Great playing man
When I saw that you used a roland fa08 I laughed so hard. My exact setup. Love em both.
Wow, dude you're awesome!!!
nice!
Sometimes less is more. Talk about using 61 keys to the highest level!😂🔥🔥

I just love it!
Gracias! No podia hacerlo sonar mejor..

The song is basically a jazz funk standard. I wonder how it got it’s name?

great! by the way, what pedals are you using?
Thanks! I'm using the M-Audio EX-P as Volume Pedal and the Roland DP-10 as Hold Pedal (highly recommend the latter because of the anti-slip gum) :)
why do I even try, chopstix sounds good on my nord, whats the secret? scales?

This is the built-in organ sound of the Nord Electro 5 including the Leslie Sim.

Well done! Tasty..
If you had the 73 key model you wouldn't have run out of left-hand notes in the tag line..
Thanks! You're right. But the 61 key model is more transportable using a backpack :P
That's a Hammond's extension: the 73 model doesn't stretch out any lower, as it would not be a faithful simulation.
