@@Nathan-ui6bm Alright, let's not blow things out of proportions. Sure the game was excellent, _great_ I'd argue. But is it _far_ from a masterpiece. Just the stark contrast between the freedom granted in free roam and the restrictive linear paths set for main and secondary missions is extremely jarring. This creates a disconnect between Arthur and ____ when they're on mission acting one way, to just then go into open world maybe starts behaving completely different. This guy has a great video about this subject: *Rockstar's Game Design is Outdated* ua-cam.com/video/MvJPKOLDSos/v-deo.html
The first time the game sets you completely lose in Chapter 2, I was riding through the northern path up in Grizzlies East where you can see all the way to Saint Denis, as the sun was setting, with the red-pink hue on the rocks, and you could see a storm off in the distance. My jaw completely dropped. I rode down into The Heartlands, and the sky was so clear, you could see the galaxy reflecting back (or at least that's what my unscientific mind thought it was), I was completely awe-struck. I've played it so much now I'm frankly, and unfortunately, so used to it I don't get that sense as often, though it still crops up more frequently than any other game for me. I'll just be riding around, hunting for something or just for the hell of it, and I'll have to stop and say "holy fuck." I think the best of the game shines through when you're not actively doing anything, just wandering. But man, I envy those who get to have that feeling the first time, it was one of those sorts of moments where you're like "Holy shit, *this* is what games can truly be." It's a watershed moment, this game, and to be able to experience that and feel that for the first time. I wish I could experience it like that again.
My excitement while in Chapter 1 was one of the best feelings I've actually ever had. No responsibilities, no chores, no school, nothing; just me, this beautiful game, and a world to do whatever I want in. I still wish I can go back and experience that one moment.
I started playing with no prior knowledge of RDR, or many games for that matter, I’m simply an animation person and the fluidity caught my eye. I didn’t figure out there was a map until much later, so I didn’t know how far it went. I just went on an adventure with my horse. We trotted along, taking time, there was no rush. I loved finding towns, but when I found Saint Denis OH. The pure excitement. I just went store to store, I watched the show and ran into a few street lights. By evening I was making my way back to camp. As I returned I watched the land slowly become recognizable, Rhodes, Emerald Ranch, then Valentine. That was the moment for me.
Orion's Arrow I remember the first time I discovered saint denis. I had just finished a bounty mission or something and decided to screw around on the train riding it south. Then I saw it and was like DAMN is that a CITY? Then I looked on the map and saw how far south I had come. This was in chapter 2 and it was then when a feeling of true excitement rushed over me of how big this map must be and how much else there is to explore. I couldn’t wait. Pretty sure I stayed up til 5 am playing that night
I miss CH2. Arthur was so curious about the open world. They story wasn't so serious and depressing. I could ride the wind and enjoy the sunset and Arthur would hum a tune.

Not only is Red Dead Redemption 2 my favorite game of this decade, it's my favorite piece of media this decade. Movies, games, books, music albums. Everything.
Who doesn’t. When that part starts up and you’re just riding out to wherever you need to go you can really immerse yourself in feeling the despair that Arthur felt seeing his way of life crumbling, regardless he continues to follow Dutch, trusting him like a father
I love all of little charm things that Rockstar adds to RDR. The ambient music can tell you where you are on map without even hitting pause. I love GTA, but I would not be upset if Rockstar gave priority one to the Red Dead series from here out.
They sadly won’t because the games don’t make nearly as much money as gta. However, I feel like they should leave the series because it ended perfectly.
As of current it seems this masterpiece has been completely abandoned. Only with very sporadic updates to the online counterpart. They don't even update the campaign for both GTAV and RDR2 it's sad.
I have a big problem where I can never stop thinking and stressing about things. I can never truly let my mind lose. Well, I just got this wonderful game and upon being allowed to finally free roam for the first time when you set up camp outside of valentine, I was completely immersed and just stopped thinking and just enjoyed the world. I explored and just casually walked and talked to everyone in the camp and the same over in Valentine. So far this game is just amazing and Rockstar rarely disappoints. In the past several years, I've never been "let lose" so to speak, when playing a game. Just absent minded and immersed. I've only had the same feeling, recently at least, with Far Cry 5. Something about the nature of the West and the personality it has is just so relaxing and calming. Im really enjoying this game so far and I can't wait to keep playing it!
It's been a few months since I beat the game for the 3rd or 4th time and the music already sounds nostalgic. Can't imagine how much my heart will hurt listening to the music from this game in a few years
Absolutely incredible. The sounds of nature just makes you feel so at peace that I can’t describe into words. But after completing Arthur’s character arc and began playing as John, I feel weird. It’s not because of John, it’s just you start missing the gang. They were like a big family, and seeing them part ways really hurts like hell.
Countless hours of playing this game and it still blows my mind every time I take a break and hop back on. I wish I could relive the first month of playing this game again. It gave me such a great sense of happiness, security, and humbleness. This game couldn’t have arrived the way it did because I was also going through a very monumental point in my life. Thank you Rockstar! Thank you Red Dead Redemption! Thank you Arthur Morgan for having such a great impact on my life!
I know I’m late but I honestly gotta say, Chapter 2 was my favorite. I explored with Arthur so much in this game and I remember going to Big Valley, W.E. and The Heartlands, N.E. and would hear 1:15 all the time. The music in this game is going to give me so much nostalgia within the new few years. I might even return to this video within the next decade or so (if the world doesn’t end by that point) for nostalgia. Thank you for uploading.
I didn’t even know that you could free roam from the start of the game. I was so infatuated in the story. Even when I did, I still only wanted to explore once the area was introduced. Proves how well the story was written.
I play old time banjo. Both "clawhammer" (overhand) style and two-finger styles. The music in this game was just amazing. My banjo nerd gripe are the banjos shown in the game are 4 string "tenor" resonator banjos which were not around at this time period. All the banjos would have been 5 string, "open back" style banjos of various designs or old time "mountain" style banjos. All the banjo music, from what I can tell, were played old time styles and with traditional, 5 string open backs. This particular banjo riff sounds two-finger up picking style. It reminds me a lot of the song "Red Rocking Chair" when played slow. Sarah Wood, another folk banjo player, does a beautiful two-finger rendition on her "25 Tunes for Old Time Banjo & Singing" album. Check out "Red Rocking Chair (slow banjo)" which is also on UA-cam. I always felt this would also have been a great exploration background song in the Annesburg area outside of the spooky moments and areas or some other place in the game. It would have been cool as well to have multiple, modern folk banjo players contribute. Rhiannon Giddens was awesome but others as well such as Sarah Wood, Clifton Hicks, Riley Baugus, etc. Then add them in the game as little "Easter egg" cameos as random NPC's or part of various story lines.
One thing that continues to amaze me in this game is the vast array of wildlife. From giant grizzly bears to tiny songbirds in bushes, I still haven't discovered them all, and I've had the game since its release. It's gonna be hard for Rockstar to top this one. Absolute perfection.
i still like to just wander around in this world. Some hunting, some bounty hunting, some camping, exchanging goods with the trapper. Truly never ending experience.
