    Just picked up a Outback Onyx XT Wilderness, 9.5" of ground clearance, skid plates, upgraded suspension , X mode, and A/T tires. The CVT provides more clamping power for off road duty. These Outbacks are one of the best all around vehicles. Bring on the snow ! Really enjoy your reviews, keep up the excellent work. :-)

      Same here man, TFL sucks when it comes to offroading it's like they are scared to go offroading in their cars...they sucked when it came to offroading with their 2018 outback and then claimed that it sucked in offroad situations yet this channel with the same 2018 outback was able to go offroading in many different situations and was amazed of how capable the outback was and indeed it is very capable....

    • @dillonh321
      @dillonh321 3 роки тому

      TFL is really bad. Idk if they are clueless about x mode or what but they couldn't take their outback places I've taken mine. Also they had a problem with the CVT that could have been avoided if they didn't thrash the throttle when they get stuck and let the computer work it out instead.

    Very envious of this vehicle. I drive a 2006 Forester, back when the forester was a beefed up wagon rather than the SUV it is today. We will probably end up getting a gently-used lower-trim Outback in another couple years. But boy would we love an Onyx XT with all these upgrades. Can't justify the $$$$ though.

    Given how the biggest concern by so many is the CVT overheating, I think it would be interesting to see a service road with an extended incline; not with the idea of breaking the car or pushing it past its limit, but more to see how capable it is (hopefully) and to quell some of the concerns.
    I do a lot of driving on service roads, so I really appreciate your channel that puts, “soft-roaders” against the kind of realistic service roads/backroads that many hikers/climbers/campers might see, vs unrealistic off-road trails that would typically only be run in a truck or Jeep.
    I found your V60 Cross Country video very informative and it makes me curious how other, “soft-road,” vehicles with off-road modes would do, such as the BMW X5 or VW Tiguan, or even just popular vehicles with AWD systems, like the Acura RDX.
    I realize I’m far from the typical car shopper, but many of my peers are in the same boat of trying to find realistic reviews of such vehicles, so please keep up the great content!

    I have the Continental all-terrain tires on my outback. They are not as aggressive or knobby as some other tires, but for driving 99% of the time on paved roads they perform really well. Consumer Reports gave high test results for handling and quietness. These scored the best for the all terrain tires that will fit on the outback.

    Ive used my 17 outback to tow a small boat to remote lakes accessible via seasonal and old logging roads in northern mi. It's been awesome for that. Sometimes the tree branches trigger a collision alert on the eye sight system! The roads are mostly rutted and sandy and there are no proper boat ramps but not had a problem . Replace the stock tires though. 45k miles no issues. I've also gone through ~10 inches of snow to get to the lakes with my ice fishing gear. I put Goodyear assurance weatherready tires on my outback. Also gone up some seasonal roads with hills to get to our favorite morrel mushroom locations, xmode worked well on the hills.

    I have a 2020 Forester so different engine, CVT and gearing. But would love to see a pinch/tilt incline/decline test with the degrees to match. I have on stock tires at full air done 15-18 degrees with little drama. Everyone always talks about the need for a low range and locking dif . I’d love to see you test this things limits on inclines. And just for “fun” see if this can get close to the course Jeep uses for the Jeep Experience at the auto shows. We went one and it was fun, but their cost Mpg and practicality aren’t a good fit for our family right now. Anyways I’d love to see some “extreme” climbs with degrees. Keep up the good work, I hope you and your family are well!

    One more thing. I downloaded an vibration app and a decibel app to compare the rides and the quietness of the Ascent. It was amazingly smooth as compared to previous Infinity FX45 and the Honda Truck. On the same road the FX45 tested at approx 5.1 vibration, the Honda was much better at approx 4.3 but the Ascent was amazing at a 3.0. The longer wheel base might make the Ascent a bit better than the Outback. I continue to be amazed at the ride of the Subaru, not something they talk much about.

    Thanks for another great video! I have been undecided between the regular Outback 2.5L with the better gas mileage and the Outback Onyx 2.4L XT with higher HP & torque. I think you have convinced me to go with the XT for the power and the 2X Mode, in spite of losing 3 MPG in both city and hwy. (I do love the Touring leather though!) I'll let you know my final decision soon.

    Cool video. I have a 19 Ascent with most of the same features. I've towed a flat deck trailer but hope you give a try to say a 30' RV - I'm guessing you have the same 5,000 towing capability. The Ascent is a bit longer but I find with the 3rd row of seats always down I just have more storage. The Ascent has captain chairs in the back a very nice option. Do you have the cooled seating? I don't have the Premier edition but wish I had the rear mirror camera a very good option. The backup camera is great for a trailer - you should get it in the first try. Looking forward to the next video, a great location to put the Outback to a great test!

    Enjoyed you having so much fun in it. Gorgeous country. I could dig same if there. Much flatter in Midwest, but snow country, so a Suubie is important tool. I think we shall upgrade our 15 Outback Lmtd, with another Lmtd. Save some coin for in town life, no turbo, no sunroof. Sure wish it could have heated steering wheel and turn off stop/start malarkey. Maybe the latter can be permanently shut off. Alex Martens the only competition still on the market that rivals Subaru AWD would be Audi authentic Quattro(not haldex). Nothing comes even close, I’d take a unique spec’d Subaru with some personality than a fleet vehicle that Honda pumps out, and every suburban mom drives currently.

    • @atmartens
      @atmartens 4 роки тому

      @@dylankoch9661 I disagree with that completely. Honda and Acura's SH-AWD is far superior than the Subaru system. And there's a lot of car reviews where Subaru's CVT over heats. That's the killer for the Subaru is the terrible transmission.

    I am looking to buy a new vehicle soon. The Subaru Ouback Onyx XT looks pretty good and receives in general good reviews. I have tried it and I was rather surprised by the level of comfort on the road. I do a lot of outdoor activities (skiing, camping, canoe-camping) and it would be appropriate for that.
    My only fear is the fact that I read quite often all kind of bad comments regarding the long term durability and reliability of Subaru’s engines. I am wondering if this is really true or rather exaggerated by some peoples.
    I am looking for feedback from Subaru owners.

      Other things that make no sense? Tachometer dominates the driver's display even though its CVT only. No tactile buttons for most controls making the big display super distracting. Giant display can't go fullscreen in android auto. They put the intercooler at the top of the engine bay and heat rises, so you're basically cooking the intercooler whenever you're not in motion, ruining efficiency.

    If you had optioned an XT Touring, instead of the Onyx, you actually get a single disc CD player, which is oddly mounted in the center console. That's the one I purchased in February. I will say this however, it is very difficult to find many XT Touring Outbacks on dealer lots and there isn't much color choice if you can find one. I found a good one in Renton, and it is that "Magnetilite" (anthracite) color. The Onyx trim seems to have a larger variety of colors available on dealer lots. I like the blue color you have a lot.

    Ha!! I realize this is an old video - but I've been strongly considering trading both my Wrangler AND Golf Wagon for a single Outback or Forester. Right now I'm hung up on whether the Wilderness trim is necessary - we do a lot of highway miles and could use the extra efficiency, but regularly encounter rougher NF roads and deep snow. For weeks I've been thinking "I wish I could just find video of someone taking a standard Outback down NF-9021" since it's always been my benchmark trail for cars and motorcycles (I live one exit west)... and here you are doing exactly that!
    Really enjoy your channel, Ryan - one of the only people breaking past the reviewer cliche of "but no one will really take these off road" (while still avoiding the equally cliche'd hashtag-ridden overlanding tropes.)
