I own the riddell rival pads, have done for 2 seasons now, I'm never sure if they actually fit or not. I'm a Dlineman, I'm 6ft3 and around 250lbs but I'm built, not fat (bodybuilder), so round shoulders, high delts. I always feel like these are the wrong size, but got sized up when I bought hem and the store (football america) said they were the right fit. Do all pads rise up when you bring your hands up? If I try lift my arms above the horizontal then my pad rise up and stay up until I pull them down, otherwise they start to squeeze into my neck lol. For reference I bought them in an XL.
I’m a 6’5 receiver and have a hard time reaching above my head to grab the ball, should I take out the pads that he said will increase mobility if I move or should I leave them in??
I have noticed, since the 80s and 90s shoulder pads have taken a drastic reduction in size, I would love to see how these new pads would hold up to a player such as Laurence Taylor. Most players you cant tell they have pads on anymore. How can they offer more or equal protection, or is it a sacrifice in protection for mobility?
I think the game has changed. It's a lot faster with less impact. The biggest things that have changed are the size of the epaulettes on the pads that were used for contact so my guess would be the same as yours. More mobility, more agility, less protection, but also less contact.
I just got these pads and i’m a receiver definitely feel good but restricts my range of motion when extending to reach up when making a high pointed catch any help??
