I'm lucky to have been a young trainspotter in the late 50's and early 60's and to have seen 60007 and the prototype blue Deltic on the main line, this brings back memories of innocent days.
Looks awful. Why not give it the green BR livery it had for most of its working life? It's the livery everyone, who remembers steam witnessed - and misses.
Just dawned on me as a kid I’ve been on both… in the cab of Royal Scots Grey at Perth in 1985 I think, and on the footplate of Sir Nigel Gresley at Carnforth Steamtown in 1979. Even got to chuck coal in the fire… bloomin heck it was hot!
Sir Nigel Gresley looking stunning in the BR express blue! I bet the original would be proud to know his name sake is still running. Sir Nigel was the first A4 I ever saw in the flesh at Steamtown, Carnforth in 1980 as a kid. It was in garter blue back then. That was also my first time seeing Flying Scotsman.
Yes - There wasn’t much spare time to make that work today. Glad it did though - I was considering Edinburgh also tonight for SNG’s arrival but bailed out 🤣🙈
The clowns are there for you're safety & unless you've worked on the railway & seen the horrible accidents that can happen in just the blink of an eye you'll appreciate those clowns advice ( guard with 21 years of mainline service ) see you in the ambulance 🤦♂️😜
This brings back a few.memories of trainspotting in the late 50's; happy days! Armed with a Box Brownie camera and an Ian Allan book.......sorry showing my age!
Very good video from today. I was there in early March 2020 when 60009 ran its last mainline tour? There seemed to be about the same number of people there then. 70000 was there the same day before number 9 arrived.
Takes me back to New Southgate 1961/2/3 .still a lot of Steam headed trains ,A4/3/2/1 V2 on mainline work and also sprinkling of Britannia class shedded at Immingham ,lots of steam freight of every description 9F,WD,B1 but also the slow diesel introduction ,Brush diesels ,class31/47/40 and DMU units but it was the mighty Deltics that slowly came on stream ,still unnamed ,green and cream ,wondrous sight and also class 33on Cliffs to Uddingston cement trains ,happy days ,
Hah, the annoying announcement at 7:07 just after the steam let off as it got underway 😂 Great selection of shots there, thank you for sharing with us all! 😊
Locomotives regardless of being steam, diesel, or anything else powered is like boats & ships they are most likely to be called she's & have been that way for many, many years. Why i really have no idea but, maybe it just sounds better by naming as a she rather than he's. & it's been that way for a very long time ( proberbly since shipping & railways began 🙄🤔) i maybe wrong but, that is my bad memory of it. So, if others have better or more accurate info then fine. But, i will always refer these as she's & even many aircraft are known as she's aswell. i suppose "some" people even call their cars or other modes of transport by a she name. 🙄🙄🙄🤔🤔🤔 It's been like that for many years so who am i to argue with it. I am quite happy for them to be refered as she's. Some don't care & others are not bothered either way it's just a mode of transport to them. The opinion is upto the individual I suppose. It would just depend on how much has respect , care & love for it.
I know the support coach is there for a reason, but it would have been more symbolic if just 60007+tender had reversed in to replace the Deltic at the head of a train.
Great video and it comes with a memory, i am approaching 73 and as a 13 year old witnessed a diesel coupled up to a steam loco, this was at crewe , there was a tug of war, which one won i have no idea as we pulled out of the station as the tug of war started, anyone with info from all those years ago it would be great to hear.
Each represents a real peak in rail travel for its era. To think they now share the rails with those azuma railcars. Cliche: if we want to provide free electricity for the whole ECML, just attach a dynamo to Sir Nigel Gresley (the man not the locomotive) as he'll be spinning in his grave for what DaFT has done to his railway.
Back in the early 1960`s just before the shutting down of the line between Burton on Trent to Walsall on the old South Staffs Line, I was fortunate to see the "Sir Nigel" hooked up to a 2 coach local service at Pelsall Station. She looked all black and in a really unkempt state and I thought to myself what an inglorious end for a once mighty main-line express Locomotive of the LNER era to be abused like that. Seeing her now in this and other video`s I`m glad she never disappeared into the scrap-yards like so many of her class and now looking magnificent in its original Garter Blue livery.
Another lovely video well done great camera work as usual I am really enjoying your lovely videos and camera work keep your lovely camera work up I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on UA-cam bye for now Philip
Just a pity about the A4's 'Steam Dreams' headboard. At times such as these we don't want to be reminded of the modern commercial side of steam operations.
Depends on your point of view. As a spotter in the 70s i remember the 55s in blue. Beautiful in green but for me a blue Deltic on a rake of Mk2 aircons takes some beating.
Yes nice video Shame Sir Nigel Gresley failed over weekend 20132 LSL dragged A4 to crewe been lovely see Chopper on its own hauling A4 not something see too much these days Chopper 20's. 40013 sent to Scotland take over from A4

It wasn't until I'd started eating my now cold dinner that I remembered that I could press the pause button. What a great video.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.. 🙏👍
Two absolute icons of the railways, disappointed that I didn't get down to the NYMR earlier in the year to see Sir Nige again in person.
Nostalgia overload, whistle'n Deltic & swooping lines of A4's with the sander's doing their best to hold the power on to the rails, a spotters dream 😂
I’m by no means a rail enthusiast, but they are two beautiful engines!

Amazing to see how nicely Nigel has been restored
Looks awful. Why not give it the green BR livery it had for most of its working life? It's the livery everyone, who remembers steam witnessed - and misses.
The SNG trust members voted for the current livery when polled for their preference.
@@gainsbourg66 the green BR livery is horrid, whereas in blue, an A4 always looks magnificent.
And now it's failed
@@gainsbourg66Because express blue is the best colour for a steam loco
Two giants of the ECML helping out. Well done LSL and well done bud for the video. Keep it up. SNG looks stunning in garter blue
Both of those locos look amazing - Great job being done by LSL again 👍
It's not garter blue it's BR passenger express blue although I agree it looks absolutely stunning!
I enjoy seing changeover moments like this, lovely capture. Station looks packed, unsurprising given the motive power involved :)
Superb. Thanks for sharing
Great job. You got all the action perfectly 👍
Different.
Diesel in green, steam in blue.
Must be great having a Deltic & an A4 on your train.
I've never seen an A4 up close, must be hard to see with that whopping great boiler in front! What a beast.

The engines are resplendent, but the film making is also top notch.
Thanks Chris 🙏👍
Where exactly is that? Must have missed it. I thought it was crappy.
Nobody mentioned the Class 47 on the back ..what a machine that is too..
Indeed probably my most favourite class of loco.
Fabulous piece of filming, editing and great sound. Very impressed
Cheers Paul 🙏👍
dosn’t get any better than that. Two iconic locomotives 👍
It must take some planning to capture the Deltic leaving KX, edit and post the video, and still get to York for it's arrival!
Yes - There wasn’t much spare time to make that work today. Glad it did though - I was considering Edinburgh also tonight for SNG’s arrival but bailed out 🤣🙈
2 great locos, and everyone having a good time without clowns telling everyone to stand back.
No gaps to mind either.
absolutely
There are some real hero's in the railway scene hey

Beautiful piece of machinery. Impressive in many ways. I hope to see it in person one day.
Going on Sunday to see it come back. Looks absolutely heaving, I expect it’ll be similar on Sunday! Cracking video mate.
Thanks - It’ll be busy but you’ll enjoy that one 👌👍

Both locos and the Brush Type 4 very much at home in York. The A4 looks stunning and the Deltic the very being of grace.
Wonderful, and both in such pristine condition!

Great footage! 😊 thank you
Both looking absolutely beautiful. Great to see SNG back and in good form.
Just as I remember them leaving York in the 1950's. They always slipped on their way out, especially A4's, A3's and V2's.

A4, What a glorious machine
Oh boy, there are some belters in this video & those engines have the mightiest roar 👏
The fireman is doing a fine job. She is burning clean, no soot.
Wow! Can't remember how long since I saw some streaks parked at Doncaster waiting scrapping!
That’s a while back now! Long live the remaining streaks 🙏👍
Superb video. Smart move to employ a 9 feet tall camera operator too!
Could have done with another 6ft most of the time - It was super busy! 🤣👍
Out of interest were you using a pole, or ladders or a mini drone?!

Very little white smoke from D9000. Have its Napiers just been overhauled? Both locos immaculately turned out.

Wonderful!
British mainline steam. Grace & elegance in motion.
Sir Nigel Gresley backing down to his train and couples on.
2:38 so I guess the British finally saw the advantage of the knuckle cuplar
We have been using the buckeye coupling for at least the last 70 years since the Mk1s were introduced in ‘51
We've had them for ages mate
The corridor tender has a drop head buckeye and that's from the 1930s!!
Chain couplings also have their advantages, these have both!
Magnificent machines.
Great camerawork and editing.
Thank you
Very nice indeed
Superb locos...even the class 47 was in its best livery.
No wonder it was struggling away with 12 coaches and another heavy diesel on the rear!
Proper traction to finish off the tour with
Two legends
At least they didn't slam into the standing carriages..
Great capture but Platform 11 and the surrounding infrastructure could do with a bit of a spruce up, same as I remember it in the late 70's.
Surely it's changed since then. The 1989 electrification modified things quite a bit?
You just want the guy in carriage to be saying “You’re all right” in a Top Gear way!!!
Oh the good ole days when we actually built our own trains....
Does anyone think in many years to come people will line the platform to see an historic Azuma?
My brother swears he'd rather have a HST than Azuma...

Whereas in the Mk IX jaguar, it is perfect.
should have doubled headed with the deltic!
