Not quite. Samplitude Pro added this feature over a year ago and you can do so much more. For instance... you can not only comp over a section but you can actually comp over from a different portion of the takes or even add to the 8 bar measure to make a 16 bar measure. Sorta like chopping and splicing your takes however you like. Ableton is getting there... they're just taking the scenic route. Samplitude Pro added MPE function a year ago too. Still on the fence whether MPE is truly the evolution of MIDI considering the weirdo touch keys on those MPE keybed instruments. Seems more gimmicky than anything.

Ableton could have done better with this honestly. It’s really basic and late to the party. It’s time for Ableton to something ground breaking again. This is kinda basic. And she’s right, Samplitude in some ways is 10 years ahead of some DAWs in certain features.

Video should mention performing take comping on multiple tracks, such as how you would use comping for a multi mic'd drum kit recording. If you link a group of tracks, you can perform identical comping on multiple tracks at once.
It's things like this (I'm including the multi-track comping) that help to make Ableton Live my favorite DAW. I love that you don't make it a pain to edit parts of the takes after you've comped them. They remain easy to edit, and easy to re-comp. And comping drums is at least 4X easier now with the multi-track comping. Thank you!
@@HateSupreme crazy right. live 10 when buffer was at 128 working gangbusters. live 11 buffer same computer ready to take off or meltdown whichever it prefers in the moment. buffer at 1024 all gravy but cant deal with the latency for tracking. cant catch a f**king break with the cpu. its made me start using Studio One more. till i get it sorted....i will not be buying a new machine anytime soon.
@@HateSupreme disable cpu overload indication and set your meter text to average, Live 10 only showed average cpu load while Live 11 has current cpu load which is much more sensitive to cpu usage and it's operations
@@HateSupreme Had this, too. It was based on two reasons: I used a notebook and notebook CPUs are not the same as desktop CPUs even if they are named similarly. In addition, if the notebooks technical internal design isn't good it runs more often into heat problems, making the OS to slow down the CPU. The next thing was using a multiple monitor setup (external monitor + the notebook display). I could only work with ableton when I disabled one of the displays.

Dear Ableton Live engineers. Please add the mixer pane in arrangement view. Don't ask me how this feature has been overlooked all of these years. Live is the ONLY DAW on the market right now that doesn't have a option to display the channel mixer in its linear sequencer. Just add a tab button at the bottom of the screen where we can select either our plugin chain, clip editor or the mixer pane. I thought for sure you guys and girls would've added it in Live 11... but nope.

Hi there, is it possible to disable "Take Lanes/ Comping" in Ableton live? It automatically creates hundreds of hidden takes and my projects gets ridiculously huge!, any help would be much appreciated.
I think it's a good idea. However, you always have Manage Project to clean-up unused files, but it's an extra step. FYI: Cakewalk Sonar (defunct now, but very far ahead of its time) had this option in the preferences. Please submit a Feature Request to Ableton.

I did indeed try this! Still doesnt work. But i did find a solution!! I literally copied (ctrl c) all my tracks from my 10 project. Pasted them into a New 11 project. Miraculously worked!
Are you guys working on AI? As a beginner recording vocalist and mixer it'd be so helpful to have an AI that can pick the best parts and stitch it for me, I just set it up and make a bunch of takes.
I haven't tried it but in "Preferences" you can select that every new Track (Whether it's MIDI or Audio) has a different color, so I guess that Tracklanes count to that too. But as I said, haven't tried it, so it's up to you. Let me know if this solved it for you.😁🤘

Question: Is it possible to choose more than 1 take lane to make the final output, effectively layering take lanes. In her last example with the same pattern but with 3 different synth sounds it might be fun to layer them up, but choose different combinations of layers
If you dont want to use the loop function, how do you record straight to a new take lane? For example, if i want to talk to the singer in between takes I dont want to use loop function
Hi there. It's not possible to start recording directly into a take lane like this. You'd need to use a different workflow in that case. For example, you could stop the recording to communicate, then record a new separate audio clip afterward. Thanks - Ableton

Is there a way to not auto-playlist takes while recording? I like to record a take, and if I don't like it, immediately record over it. If I do like it, then I hit the shortcut and playlist it to save it. In Ableton 11 it seems like every take is auto-playlisted no matter what, but maybe there's a way to turn that feature off?
how does she have it so the previous takes don't play over the live performance? Every time I comp I hear my previous takes as I'm recording and it's super distracting. HALP
Your MIDI arrangement button (the big plus sign + on top of your interface) is most probably on. This was happening top me as well and I was able to fix it.
@@nfernandable I learned if you turn off the loop, ableton still records each take to it's own layer to allow for water breaks and time to chat with the artist
@@flameoftruth1781 discovered that by accident yesterday -- threw me off at first -- my first experiments having 11 was the comping but had not yet seen this video, just one by ELPHNT, which in itself was pretty good but not as comprehensive as this vid
Just noticed that comping occurs for ALL the playing tracks, depite only one being selected for recording. This creates huge amount of clips out of nowhere :(

Hi, Lite and Intro are indeed entirely different versions of Live. While Comping may only be available with Intro, Standard, and Suite, multiple automation lanes are fully supported with Lite. In addition to the previously posted link with all the Live Lite features, you can also have a look at the Compare Live editions page in which we list all the features available in the other three versions. Drum comping is about to get really crazy, really fast. Thanks for being amazing Ableton, joined in 2017 and never looked back.

Simple workaround: You can use “View > Second Window”, adjust both windows to your needs, and place them as you like either on one or two screens.

Would comping in session view be redundant? I prefer to create in that view rather than arrangement but this feature is very practical.
I don't think so, but you can just copy/paste your particular take from arrangement into a session view clip pretty easy.

I have no show lanes option and it just keeps recording over the loop like it used to. How do you enable comping?
Click the toggle button next to the locator arrows at the top right above the track names. I had the same problem.

good question, can you not just add some empty bars at the end of the loop and do it that way?

You can just record over the first take, and once youre done unfold the take lanes and get to work with comping

When I right click on the track there is no show take lanes to click on. Please help. How do I turn this feature on
