EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT I AM MAKING A PLANT SENSOR
For updates and help designing sign up here: gardeningincanada.earthone.io
The sensor is not simply going to tell you if your humidity is high enough or when you need to water your plants. The purpose of the sensor is to help you learn while optimizing plant growth in your microenvironment.
This is being done using plant science such as VPD. This means we won’t tell you to simply raise your humidity we will teach you what the best humidity is for your temperature/environment. This will maximize growth but also prevent against harmful fungi. Another thing that makes this plant sensor different then others is the pH sensor. This is going to be key to ensuring your plants have optimal nutrient availability despite the inherent acidic pH of a potting soil mix.
    1. We need your HELP. Seriously… What would you name the sensor?
    2. Keep your eye out for surveys to help select what features the app should have, how it should look, etc.
BUT there is only a limited quantity available for the first batch coming out in July. To make sure you get your sensor before they sell out sign up for the newsletter. You will be the first people to know the sensor is ready to go!

Your sensor sounds like a plant oracle. I use individual sensors to make those measurements so a single device sounds awesome! Maybe call it the [plant, garden, soil, etc.] oracle since it sounds like it's channeling advice from the gods to tell you how to grow all things green.

I really like how you took into consideration your style of gardening. I realized that no matter how much I try not to, I over watered pretty frequently. I did 50/50 peat/perlite. to that added 10% by volume vermicompost, 15% by volume compost, and ammended with some all purpose alfalfa, kelp, and rock phosphate fertilizer at 1 cup per cu. ft and some basalt rock dust at 1 cup per cubic foot. My house plants have never been happier. lol

So the sensor is generally a single plant monitor, for many plants only if treated and potted similarly.
Good marketing could be had in the home and commercial cannabis growing, or for indoor botanical gardens with rare plants. So when a name is chosen it should be a little on the serious side so at first sight the name should reflect what it does

    • @GardeningInCanada
      @GardeningInCanada  2 роки тому

That's our thoughts too cannabis and the expensive plants are generally the people that want this hardcore data. As for the name 100% we were actually told that by a mentor. Currently its named doot and they said its not serious enough

Some people use sphagnum moss as a soil for plants - but that would require a fertilizer I guess. Can I ignore fertilizing and just water my plants, if they are in a "normal soil"? What would be the result of adding sphagnum moss - long ones - to the soil itself. So something like compost + plant soil + perlite + sphagnum. Would it be better with the moss, or worse?

Have you tried soil moist into your potting mix? You put in the gels in water and they soak up all the water, like a slushy jello in the bucket. Once in the potting soil, as the roots grow and the media dry out, the roots will take the water out of the little gels, until you can water again. Once watered, any gels lacking water will absorb any excess water and will be ready for any dry spell. Just a thought.

What a nice content!!! 🤩 I just find you while I was making a researching about how to make my own aquatic soil. I have plans to set up an planted tank with high demanding plants in soft water, high light and co2. I have been watching some of your videos to have a better idea, but I think aquatic environment is completely different and I don't know if your tips and recipes also works underwater with the same efficiency 🤔
Please, could you give me a hand?
I have in mind to use:
    Top soil
    Coconut coir
    Hummus
    Clay soil
    Pomice
    Lava sand
    Sphagnum moss
I had thought charcoal, but I already watched your video about it, so I think avoid it. What do you think?
Organic ingredients would be around 20%
Additionally, I would like to use a little bit of calcium sulfate in it to flocculation.
How does it sound? Any advice or suggestion?
I'd love to have the opinion from a soil scientist 😊
