  • Nkululeko was a bright happy toddler before an accident with a primus stove in the family’s rural home. Spending much of his early life in the hospital recovering he was not prepared for the cruelty of children when he finally entered school, or the reality of finding his place in the world, with only his grandfather to support him. It was only when he was assisted by a charity organisation that Nkululeko finally found his passion for art, and place that saw his talents and abilities and not the scars on his body. In South Africa approximately just over 1 and a half million of the country’s population will suffer from burn injuries annually. Young children are particularly vulnerable, claiming approximately 1 300 young lives each year. This concentration of burn mortality and injury among infants and toddlers occurs more frequently among very young children below the age of three.
EOTO follows his journey on the path to his future as a young artist who has survived more than most will ever face.
