I feel so humbled and grateful for the Dalai Lama spreading his messages to us. I see a gentle mindful sentient being reminding us that we are the same, to focus inward instead of outward, connect with others because we are social animals, reciprocate that compassion we all had to receive from our mother to survive because real peace comes from inner peace. he ofc puts it all together in a more beautiful way since he's so enlightened!!Makes me so confident that Buddhism has it all figured out :)

It's fascinating when individuals with opposing views fail to see that each other's points are both valid and fail strike a point of equilibrium per say. It's a beautiful thing to be able to absorb wisdom from knowledge, without hindrances to wisdom which in context may include grammatical errors, use wrong words, (all part of language barrier). Getting too technical hinders from being able to find intended meaning in knowledge however previously being a perfectionists by nature ...I would encourage the the university to try to post the videos in the best quality possible. I don't personally mind. I seek the essence and would listen to only the audio even,but it could be the difference between a shallow mind going a bit deeper or staying as shallow as it is. I try to share useful media with kids and anyone who I see may have an interest (I live in a small predominantly catholic country) so i would appreciate the best quality. It's important to me because I want to be as effective at getting them interested in the material as possible so it really needs to make a good impression on them which means it needs to be the best quality. I try to get really good videos 1080 but where I can't I settle for lower. But yes i will be teaching them (because I'll be running a tiny summer camp to share useful media and give kids personal attention
),after being able to spark their interest , to look beyond technicalities and to be able to focus on absorbing the essence of good media.
anyway as per the issue bellow here's my opinion in a nutshell
1)It was a great thing getting this video posted
2)If it is easy to make a small adjustment that makes a difference in the quality then do so.(I say this not in a demanding way but rather in a tone of enthusiastic motivation.I would never talk down on good works)
3) the guy with the aspect ration issue did have a point. (however the approach was a bit aggressive. Remember we are all humans and even if we think we are not being offensive we need to be careful about how we speak to others and how we word what we want to say)

buddhism is not a religion. It is a practice, philosophy and the path to become buddha. The only one recorded in history who became buddha is Siddharta a prince of India. Unlike other religion it does not openly and sulk up and believe in a all mighty creator. It is the training to bond with the nature and community

The centrality of compassion is LOVE. Compassion is a sign of the Love within. And we know that the root of all that is good from the least to the greatest is Love... God is Love, God is within... and within is Christ's salvation.

As far as i have understood the Dalai Lama on other occasions he actually means warm heart physically,that means you feel a tender warmth inside your upper torso&led it spread.One reason why he didn't go much into the howto's is maybe,that he doesn't want to be recognised as a Buddhist missionary man,because the actual training is according to Buddhist compassion training...too specific for a broad multireligious audience.if your interested,look up the word Tonglen or Mettameditation

I see. Never-the-less, in your previous comment you did say to "check". Doing so will be incredibly difficult if you can't point to any verifiable sources of information and say I should simply go to a university library and find "some books".
Can you mention any specific book titles? Any particular writers in particular? Perhaps some dates and times for events, or names of places?
Slavery for example, where and when was this practised by the Dalai Lama?

How I wish that the many self-proclaimed 'enlightened masters' who seem to pop up everywhere on the net these days, could take a look at this. This man exudes a natural, unaffected humility. None of this "I am awakened, and you can be too, just purchase my product" nonsense. The Dalai Lama might not be perfect, but he is nevertheless a great being. His humility is a symptom of much wisdom, IMO.
@rubberritchie My uncle was in Tibet shortly after the war. He was a young Monk and traveled with a small group of monks from his temple. The abbot of the temple advised against the trip, but did not forbid it and only gave them the advise to keep an open mind. In Tibet they practice a different form of Buddhism than we do. What he and his group was absolutely alarming. To put it mildly, the monks in Tibet do not follow the teachings of the Buddha.

@Dnash777 i agree with you partially.On the other Hand there are many means to go your own way and the Buddha gave extended teachings on these...there is a path to go of course and not MY way,but universal ways to contentment.The journey and the grade and way we adopt the understanding of the Buddhas is individual,but the "Landscape of Enlightenment" isn't.But maybe my comment is just a clarification for myself and clear to you anyway.Than:Thanx for reminding me&all happiness there is for you!

I've heard his talks and in fact attended one of his lectures before...I also just missed him at a vegetarian restaurant by about an hour once too, which would have been interesting enough. Are you trying to say he didn't take money from the CIA, speak out about his dislike for homosexuality and masturbation, and wasn't involved in the Dorje Shugden controversy?

Some history
Before Tibet became a part of China, the majority of its population were slaves. It was kind of like the US before the abolition of slavery. The slaves were told by monks that they bear the sins of their souls committed before reincarnation; thus they were destined to be slaves. Dalai Lama was the supreme religious leader at the time, and was forced to exile when the Chinese army took control of Tibet.

There have been of course extremist on both sides. The Dalai Lama himself has spoken out against these extremist.
These people that say this and this happened without having much evidence to back up what they are saying, makes things shaky.
A university of this caliber makes this and they still can't fix a simple problem of aspect ratio? For those of you who don't know what aspect ratio is, I'm referring to those black bars surrounding the video. No. This is a problem I can solve. I'm dumbfounded why some of the nations greatest minds aren't able to do it.

My point is one would expect this video to be professionally edited. The fact that it's not is somewhat disrespectful both to the university's reputation and the Dalai Lama.
I never claimed to be an expert, but this is a problem even I, with my basic knowledge of video editing, can do. Why is it that Stanford overlooked it?
