I've just joined an estate lake in Shropshire for carp but, I believe they have large tench too so this was really insightful. Think I'll be adding a lighter softer set up to my collection... thanks!
Matt was using the 12ft versions, other than the length the rods are identical. The important thing in this scenario is the softness in the tip of the rod to cushion any lunges at netting range but with enough power to get the fish away from any weed beds.
Nice video. I have done well on my local pond using pellets on the hair, but no way could I leave it out more than an hour and a half. Though usually I have had bites before that ;)

Hi Matt, enjoyed your video, were you using the 10 ft or 12 ft rods and is there any difference between the two apart from length ?

Usually I have bites less than an hour, but I’ll only recast if I’ve had a bite to minimise the disturbance in the swim :)
I just recently smashed my PB of 5Ib 8 oz with a lovely tench of 9Ib 4 oz and another of 8Ib 8oz in the same session .
