My uncle, Michiel Bartman, was in the holland boat. i don't know how to say it in English, but he was taking care of the tempo, so he was with his back to everyone. i'm so proud of him
I had the pleasure of meeting Joey Hansen, the 2 seat, at a boat dedication for the Oregon State rowing team. What an inspiring man. I'm proud to row in the "Joey Hansen"
1. 1:34- See how long they get into the catch and how they hang on the drive with the long arms. 2. 1:55- Look at how the finish is relaxed by being slightly bent over. This is a very powerful position after the swing and lets you get the hands out easier. 3. 3:05- A great shot to see the whole stroke in motion. They get the arms and body out so quick that they make the 35 rate look so smooth. 4. 4:07- Airplane coming into the catch
Thank you for posting this amazing race! Americans raced perfectly and crushed it! 1:21 first 500 (fast) . Up at full length at 1000M....then across the line in 5:42 and its Olympic Gold for the Mens 8. SWEET. The US 2012 teams have a soild bechmark to see how its done...... .
@RPowers45 the fact that he was able to do that shows that he must have had something left....imagine how fast the american boat would have been if he had worked until he had nothing left
Little did you guys know, the 4 with Volp that beat Pinsent and canada at Lucerne was actually the 2nd 4. Teti had a better 4 which Volp's 4 had never ever beaten. He kept his speed a secret up until the Olympics. Brilliant.
Looks like the USA emphasized length for this race, because it looks like they are much longer than a lot of the other crews when you look at the stern view.
@MrCrazyninja96 probably with huge current and tailwind. these boats went 5:19 a couple days earlier. A lot of boats can break 5:50's but often they have very favourable conditions
@teej408 Actually, we were giving shoutouts to Jason Read when he floated by. Believe it or not, we are friends with many of the guys from that Canadian eight. Three of us from the 2004 crew were in the 2000 crew. We knew exactly how they felt and would not wish that on anyone. Sorry there's nothing more juicy here.
@MrCrazyninja96 novices (at least high school) generally do 1500 meters, not 2K. Also, wind and water current can easily take or add minutes to your time.
@RPowers45 I met him over the summer at a rowing camp, and he coached my boat, i swear he is the most down to earth guy in the world for winning a gold medal.
@MrCrazyninja96 thats not such a huge feat my novie boat could did a 5:40 time at one of our races over 2k and that was with a huge current small factors can make a huge difference. I would like to see you in one of these boats
Seems to me like a lot of countries have put all their eggs in one basket trying to win this one event. It’s a serious gamble considering it’s only one medal.
@bigrowingfan I was going off the various convos I've had with Ted Nash, the coach of the 4 that didn't go to Lucerne. It interested me because Teti verified this in his rowing news article. I mean I'm not trying to say you're wrong but I'd like to believe my version and Ted's version cause it sounds a hell of a lot cooler.

My crew coach rowed with Jason read at temple, so I've had the pleasure of meeting Jr a few times. Great guy.
good quality and commentary, thx!

Who is the other commentator for this, I keep hearing dan but not the other one. These two know how to commentate rowing, they are so the best.
Jason Read is my motivation to train hard and maybe one day row for the U.S. team. seeing that i'm around 6'1" and he's only 6 foot.
@teej408 Actually, we were giving shoutouts to Jason Read when he floated by. Believe it or not, we are friends with many of the guys from that Canadian eight. LOVED THE OVER HEAD SHOT WHAT A GREAT RACE.
Germany has such a massive boat.
Considering you can end up with 6' 6" and 220lbs in rowing...Jason read is on the very light end of things, along with Tim Mayens
Does anyone know what Bryan Vonlpenhein yells to Jason Read after they cross the finish line?
@RPowers45 What about Volpenheim being able to stand? That's the most impressive thing to me.
@ExtremedRealm i think he might have been pointing at Jason Read who is treading in the water
@MrCrazyninja96

@d3495 surprised they dont use empachers
@Linkmaster4611 he was talking to jason read who was in the water.
How can Jason Read be considered small? He stands 6'1'' and weighed 180 at the time of this race.
@MrCrazyninja96 thats not such a huge feat my novie boat could did a 5:40 time at one of our races over 2k and that was with a huge current small factors can make a huge difference. I would like to see you in one of these boats
How can you rate 35 in an olympic final and still be a length ahead?
Seems to me like a lot of countries have put all their eggs in one basket trying to win this one event. It’s a serious gamble considering it’s only one medal.
@rowboatcop007 current on a closed lake?!
@RPowers45 visited my school recently to talk to the crew team. amazing guy
@dezmundu 1251 what video has american commentary
does anyone have a video of the world record race?

@yoctocb it even says in the commentary at like 0:23 :P
So long and strong
@nicholasdrake25 thats my coach's son
Nobeater same here FRESHMAN BOAT
@bonanatree same
you might not be joking but your wrong. They did that in the earlier stages of the regatta. 5:42 isnt that fast
Got to feel bad for Canada. Reminds me of ‘pieces of eight’.
Volpenheim definitely points at another boat and yells something something Motherfucker! at 6:04
what does he hell at 6:06?
@RPowers45 he just gave a speech to my school's crew team
@matossian Right, rowing has so much to do with spelling sorry i made a mistake im human, live with it
2:55
HAMMER TIME!!!!!!
Yeah he found he had something left, when he realised that he was at risk of drowing. Mortal danger does wonders for your energy levels.
canada became unglued and finished a dismal 5th here
go USA
hahaha how is jason read a "very small man". he's 6'1 and 185 lbs! big dude! oh well...maybe compared to the other US oarsmen...hehehe
Fastest 2k ever rowed, and I'm not joking
You are
rubbish.... definitely from England. Well ok then old chap!
