Growing up in the 80s, I felt this was the future we were promised. The future we got along with what appears likely still to come aren't leaving me very hopeful.
I love this aesthetic. it's like an early 80s futurism i guess what they would think the late 90s and 2000s would look like. It looked like the future we were headed into at the time...but like everything it wasn't the future that we got. It's got that alien tech aesthetic...as well as Star Wars influences
Hello everyone, both those who have subscribed to my channel and those who just go to watch the videos. You may wonder why I've been missing for almost 3 years. Well, during the last years I have gone through many things, I did not have it easy during 2019 and part of 2020, my 2021 was a year of much meditation and self-discovery, and this 2022 I have been very busy, I got a job and I am studying a career. if you are a sub you may remember that there were a few videos on the channel before. These I decided to put in private for personal reasons. I also left social networks because they distracted me a lot from my studies, at the same time that I could no longer tolerate the toxcity and extreme politicization of sites like Twitter, FB, and reddit. Thank God, today I am better and I continue advancing in my personal life. Maybe one day I'll come back, I feel like doing a gameplay, I don't know when I'll be able to, but I hope that soon. Take care I love you all very much, thank you for your support you are valuable people. :) -Jack
A past idea of a future society that didn't come. I love it as most artwork of the genre was optimistic about society. Makes Even more nostalgic as society has not improved.
Welcome back, Jack. I know three years is a long time, but would you know the source for that room at 3:40? I am in love with it and want to know what every button does!
I'm late to this video but Spy Kids do this in a FANTASTIC way! I watched the trilogy recently (ignore the 4th) and the tech feels so inspired for specific uses instead of being phones that do everything. Data feels like a physical block.
Movies: Logans Run, Black Hole, silent Running, THX-1138, Strange days, Back to the furure part 2 (just the way how they represent 2015), Robocop, 2010: the year we make contact, 2001: A space oddissey. Books: Foundation, Sprawl (trilogy), I robot, Limbo, Do androids dream of electric sheep? Series: Maniac, Gundam (1979 and gundam z and zz), Bubble gum crisis
Hey Bro it's been a long long Time since you dissapeared, I hope everything Is going well, I Know you're very busy now due to your new job, but I'll keep wainting for your big return king
Ya que hablas español también, me recomendas películas con cassete futurism? Busque libros pero no son tan buenos, así que si conoces libros buenos de Cassete Futurism que me puedas recomendar, te lo agradecería mucho.
A very interesting video, but I had to turn on subtitles to make just a little sense of what you said. I understand your primary language is Spanish, and this isn't meant as a critique, only that you might attract a larger audience if you focus a bit more on your speak. Part of it is perfectly clear, but it's as if every other word is muddled, even to the point that the speech-to-text subtitles become, shall we say, interesting. :-)
I agree. I just have been calling it retro-futurism as it simp!y is a past prediction of a future. But to label specific aesthetics, "cassette" is good enough tho feels off. the word "punk" has been vastly overused and doesn't apply IMO.
Casette futurism made me realize how cooler Analog is than Digital tech.
Growing up in the 80s, I felt this was the future we were promised. The future we got along with what appears likely still to come aren't leaving me very hopeful.
Found you while looking for cassette futurism, the aesthetic is really underrated.
Casette futurism is one of the main aesthetic influences that helped creating the Cyberpunk aesthetic
That was an excellent video, thank you. Really agree that it's a really specific aesthetic that doesn't get enough recognition.
I have an odd fondness for cassette tapes and floppy disks and otherwise blocky forms of data storage in retro futurisms over usb drives.
Having been forced to use floppy disks up through high school, I don’t share that view lol.
Cassette Futurism is sooo cool, its a shame it's so underrated in fiction
THANK YOU for putting a name on my obsession. How am I two years late on learning this?!?!
5 years.
5 years late too

Aha! That's what it's called!!! I always knew it as "things that look a bit like Alien"

Do one on retro futurism architecture!

Formicapunk; probably **the best** cyberpunk derivitive (not counting other punk genres; only ones like cyberprep, post-cyberpunk, cybernoir, etc.)
love the dvk-2 thumbnail

Thats from Syd Mead
@@jackerman0564 Of course it is! He's been living on my frontpage for months now!

I would love to see Cassette Futurism more in fantasy tbh like in modernised fantasy settings
Oh there's the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, both the books and games have many cassette futurism elements mixed with dark fantasy and mythology
I’m the person who coined the term and I’m beyond happy that it caught on.
I have always found analog cooler than futuristic stuff with holograms
Cassette Futurism still looks like it could be the future, just one where we has to shift back to more Analog like tech.
Great video.
both of your videos are great!
Thank you
Can you make a Cassete Futurism Movies Top, please?
I can't found one, and i see that you know more about this than me.

WestWorld, the movie
huh
I don't think Cassette Futurism is a good enough label, it feels off.
It's also called Formicapunk, if that sounds better.
@@sinnes6035 true, it is an alternative name
Cassettepunk? DOSpunk? CRTpunk?
Analog cassette futurism would be the label to use or what else?
