My earliest memory of Joyland was when my two aunts (teenagers at the time) took me at 4 years old on the roller coaster. I was so scared and I think it was the primary reason I will never, ever, ever, willingly ride a roller coaster. I remember going at the beginning of every summer and getting free tickets for my report card. I've been gone from Wichita for nearly 30 years but still remember all the fun my family had there. Joyland, you will be missed, all the way from CALI.
well we as wichitans have to show love and support and effort into the restoration project! I want ppl to really want to help and bring it back. me and my bro are gonna volunteer and see where that goes. I hope it comes back!
99 cent day at Joyland! Company picnics at Joyland! Grade day at Joyland--I had almost all A's one year! Watching fireworks at the Go-kart track on the 4th of July. My big brother suckered me into riding the roller coaster when I was 7. I was so scared I didn't ride it again for 5 years. KLEO sponsored summer parties at the Joyland pool! It could never be the same. Make it into a city park.
It would be cool if someone bought it, and fixed it up really nice like a normal park. This was more of a carnival. They could also make a new coaster...!
I went by there the other day, just plain sad. Damn arsonists burned down the building that clown and the organ were kept. I honestly think it is very interesting seeing it abandoned- remind me something out of a movie or something, but very depressing to see a place where childhood memories were made in such a horrible state. It would be kind of cool to have senior photos taken in there though, kind of a momento of sorts.
It's truly sad how quiet it is in this video. There should be people enjoying the park...unfortunately more vandalism has just happened maiking the park fall further into disrepair... Wichita should come together and save this park!!!
Really sad seeing this. All that remains today beyond piles of burned rubble (thanks arsonists) are the ruins of the Nightmare coaster, ravaged by tornados, and the Log Jam. All the stuff being stated as workable in the video makes me especially sad in retrospect. If anyone puts serious effort into restoring the park I do own some Nightmare wood (from the portion destroyed in the tornado, not removing wood from the portion still standing) that I will hapily donate back to the ride if I see evidence of any serious attempt made to bring the park back (I suspect there is more than what appears on the surface level given the secure warehouse area in the parking lot). It would be a real shame to loose an ACE Coaster Classic.
I remember my Mom & Dad taking me there. Oh the memories. I wish I could go back and enjoy it one more time...

We all remember Joyland.
If I had the money right now, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, fix it up and re-open it for future generations to enjoy.

I went there in the 50's when visiting my grandma. All gone now except for memories.
Damn, makes me want to cry. It's like viewing the dead.
I remember saving the blue token chips from bags of potato chips. You used them to get on the rides. I had great times there.
