It is really good to see that folks are appreciating the recordings of Nan Merriman being shared on you tube. She was certainly a well known mezzo soprano in her time. Perhaps the fact that she retired early to devote herself to the children from her husband's first marriage ( he was a widower I believe) and the few commercial recordings she made meant that worldwide acclaim didn't come , but her memory has always been cherished by those who were lucky enough to hear her live and record collectors who have gradually found more live recordings and clips like this. My favourite commercial recording of her is Mahler Das Lied Von Der Erde conducted by Eugene Jochum where she is joined by the tenor Ernst Haefliger.

Why us she not considered one if the greatest Mezzo- Soprano singers? She is one of the, BEST Technical singers I have ever heard! She is fabulous!

A bit hollow, throaty, and weak to sing in legit opera, but a nice voice for lighter fare.
