Surely the fact that they are genuinely terrible people should count for something. And something not enough people are being clear on is that the physical violence stuff is completely and unambiguously outside the realm of "showboating." You could be a hardline newschooler and think a full blown Attitude Era WWE type atmosphere is exactly what the sport needs to thrive in the future, and still understand that a safely run sport must have no tolerance for it. The bird flipping business is the very edge of the stuff that could be actually part of the debate Cayden is talking about; and even then note that no actual sport has any tolerance for going that far.

Winning is not everything. Having an attitude as A.J. had, certainly will not gain any respect for him from his competitors. I have a feeling it is a personality trait or maybe when he was growing up, something impacted him to act the way he does. Respecting your opponent and showing your gratitude will make you a champion to all.

Ferrari, a national champion, disrespected Glazier, a guy finally making the team senior year, whom he barely beat, with his patented post-match head mush. Glazier knew it was coming and overreacted purposely, assuming Ferrari would overreact in the extreme. Ferrari fell right into the trap. Glazier and others likely don’t want a malignant, selfish personality disrupting their room. The Brands have never valued sportsmanship, so my guess is they are unfazed. Wrestling has always held itself to a much higher standard than the popular college sports. This is not “good for wrestling”. It will never be 10% as popular as football or basketball, no matter the spectacle made. This is only of interest to us. Sandersons, Askrens, and Taylors, etc. advance the sport, not juvenile antics.

I coach young kids including two of my daughters. After training we watch a video from you just to help keep their mind set straight. You represent what the sport should be and how I want my girls approaching the sport. Thank you for having the courage to not only show your skills but more importantly how to do that in a way that gives glory to God. Here is the scripture I give my girls for a foundation when approaching sports. Hope it helps you as well. 1 Corinthians 16: 13 -14. Keep doing what you are doing.

Wrestling is humbling enough. You do not need some jerk rubbing it in after you lose a match.
My boys started late in life and had to go through allot of losses before being good enough to becoming the best in Florida.
My youngest starting in 9th grade I respect so much. He was thrown into National Tournaments because his brother was there. What I loved about him was they beat the snot out of him, but could not pin him. Was wild being at the Michigan Grappler and this newbie would give up TF, but be damned if he get pinned.
I remember him wrestling Cooper Haase end of his Junior year and a complete unknown. Lost to Cooper Haase 25 to 13, but Haase after the match saying that was a marathon and bumping fist with him both just lying on the mat exhausted.
Cooper Haase has respect for the sport and instead of rubbing it in to a State level wrestler encourage him instead. Rather have a battle like that and earn a number 6 in the country respect then many wins.
That is why I love wrestling. Imagine if Cooper Haase had a weak ego and thought wow this no name wrestler gave me a run for my money, had to actually wrestle and said something stupid out of his insecurity? Instead my son fed off of that I got better.
Cooper, great luck at West Point and hope you are a national champ one day!

I tell my son I love winning so much even when I lose I win and that means staying composed and going back to the drawing table, not being an emotional weakling.

Love your content Cayden! As an educator we do teach students to discern and judge. It's part of our humanity that keeps us safe and helps us to prosper. I'm sad about AJ's choices. A very talented wrestler but seems to be undermining his own success. Unfortunately this fiasco overshadowed a great weekend of wrestling that should be the focus. I feel bad for the wrestlers who laid it on the line and didn't get the recognition that they deserved. As an ex-Marine, an educator, and a former coach, we want to raise young men who live, and wrestle, with passion, but behave with dignity. I'm keeping a good thought for AJ and his continued growth as a wrestler, a young man of dignity, and a good human. We all have room to grow.

Appreciate your take; the sexual assault and physical assault charges against AJ & Anthony combined with their conduct in Iowa City make them a hard pass for many who are legacy supporters of the University of Iowa athletics. Fuzzy details about AJ's fireball crash are sketchy. Really distasteful young men; hard to imagine them on the same page/team as someone like Ben Kueter. You don't have to be a repugnant human to be an international champion. I hope Iowa doesn't sign either AJ or Anthony, and that they release Angelo if he wants to go with them.

You a coach, you really want that on your team.
Life is tough enough. Brand has family, you think he wants a bunch of hassles at work to bring home to family. That is how marriages are ruined. Send this dude packing. The juice is not worth its squeeze.

Terry Brands can handle him. He likes tough guys. John Smith doesn’t play that game. I respect both coaches for what they can and will put up with. I personally think Terry will break him and make him into a superstar

Ferrari isn't a "tough guy", he's an infantile asshole and punk. He should be banned from NCAA wrestling for his antics at the Soldier Salute.

*Iowa is desperate to try and keep up with Penn State. If they turn down AJ they lose Anthony as well (although he also showed himself a tool earlier in the day by shoving his Iowa opponent after the match) and Angelo might look to get out of his commitment. It's not just about AJ which is why he continues to skate.
