  • In this video, legendary teacher Mike Austin shows students at a golf teaching school how to make a full weight shift in order to increase clubhead speed and thus driving distance.
    Mike's at his classic best here..."I pick up my knee and feel like I'm going to kick a midget in the balls!" Absolutely hysterical.

    These teachings are so good. When I hit balls, the swing is best when my feet are about 12" apart. Noticed how Mike is harping on this fellow to get his feet closer together. Good stuff.

      @Coolhand850 That's not true. Mike said the feet are under the hips just as they are when we walk

      @Coolhand850 In recent video Steve Pratt says his heels are 12-13" apart. The wider the stance the more pivot necessary to post the leg vertical, and the harder to turn the back hip around the post.

    I think this is the best video to really see what the compound hip pivot should be like according to Austin.

    Flashbacks to my football days. The coaches yelled at you but you got a lot better. I love his style of coaching because I know I would get better fast. What a great explanation of the lower body working too.

    Steve, to allow for the club to swing up on the downswing, do we tee the ball higher? Thanks.

    • @Inmotion70
      @Inmotion70  5 років тому

      Yes! We need access to the dimples below the horizontal equator. If you sky the ball you'll know you're not hitting up!

    Steve, I know Austin’s approach to the golf swing is quickly fading away, but other than yourself, how many other instructors teach his methods?

    Steve at 00:42 Mike says pivoting outside hip ... I agree with this technique ... But would you agree that modern teaching would say this is "swaying" and that the weight transfer should be associated with the weight inside the right foot ... The mans swing does look great at the end ...

    • @dentfix
      @dentfix 5 років тому +1

      Yes, I agree with what you are saying about swaying. If the head moves, it would be a sway. The hip comes inside the foot once you make the backswing. It's so powerful with no stress on the spine. Colin Montgomery pivots like this.

    Love mike's methods don't like his teaching approach at all. i just take videos from his student Mike Dunaway as he explains things way better for my learning style. Ways I actually can put in my swing. Dunaway was ridiculously long for that time. Callaway big bertha and spinny balls and carried it 300+ with a casual golf swing. Insane. Can't imagine how far if he could hit a new Aerojet or Ping with a new balls!

    So left hip basically moves hard towards the target

    • @Inmotion70
      @Inmotion70  5 років тому +1

      Kind of. Remember where the left hip is at the top....rotated down and around the posted right which means it's off the wall. First move down is to put it back on the wall then move hard towards the target...then as you finish your hip turn it retrogresses.
