Just happened upon this video and it reminded me of sometime in 2009 a coworkers brother was on a solo trip fly fishing around Oregon. On his 3rd day out he didn’t contact his family so they became concerned. As it turned out he had taken a step into a hole and gotten his boot stuck and water filled up his wader.
Thank you so much. I just got a insulated waders and was constantly worried about slipping. Never heard of a belt to trap the air before. It all makes sense now
3:20 myth not mystery. And it’s completely untrue. Once your waders fill with water they are no heavier whilst you’re in the water. The problems arise if you try to pull yourself up a bank or into a boat. That’s why you should float down until you get to shallow water.
That's not necessarily true and you're making implications that have no factual basis. There are a number of problems that cause drowning that you aren't considering.
@ it’s completely true. When you’re in the water with a pair of waders full of water, you’re no heavier than if you were standing on dry ground with them full of air. It’s called physics. What are these other problems you speak of? I have plenty of factual basis including personal experience. Watch Salmo the Leaper or read Hugh’s books if you want a demonstration and description.
Really good stuff. And ultra realistic. I’ve gone for an unintentional swim in that exact spot. More than once. Amazing what a difference the wading belt makes. Thanks Dale for takin* one for the team to bring that safety point home.
